Thread regarding IBM layoffs

It's no longer realistic to expect to retire here

The leadership has been working so hard to get rid of older employees - something that's been proven again and again but sadly with no consequences for them - that it's not safe anymore to think you'll be able to retire without issues even if you only have a few years left. In fact, the closer to retirement you are, your chances of being laid off become higher. People who've devoted their lives to this company shouldn't have to worry about this so close to the end line, but here we are.

You just came to this conclusion….? Dude it was clear a decade ago. I got out of that shithole in 2017. Already tripled my TC with real bonuses and RSU’s

At the same time they layoff older employees they hire college graduates. Then when IBM RA layoff the older employees IBM tell them to train the college grads otherwise they will not provide any severance package, It is a very sad situation.

The USA pension is over funded by approx 7% (funding at 107) Europe is at 103. Would not surprise me if IBM just decides to sell the pension to prudential or fidelity and exit that part of the business. There are federal rules governing those kinds of sales, but I believe IBM now qualifies for them.
