Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Frankly, I think those laid off are the lucky ones

Verizon has been going downhill as a company for years. This was never the kind of place that treats its employees great but it was never as bad as it is now. I would love to get severance and get out of here. Despite what many think, the job market is still good. I'm betting you that everybody who was affected in this round will have a new job before the end of the month. Chances are, a much better job than they had here.

Take it from someone who was RIF'd a few years ago and took a package. Life is better on the outside. The Verizon benefits package and 401k match is good, but not really different than any other large corporation. If you're not happy, don't fear moving on. You will be fine, and probably happier. I hope everyone who wants one gets a great severance package.

Frankly, asking for a handout to leave is a pathetic way to live life. Take hold of your own destiny and quit.

The best thing about Verizon is the health insurance and premiums cost. Ask anyone who left, you can’t match it. Whether that is worth staying is up to the person.

Think on positive side -

  1. you are getting paid with 6% match + some options
  2. excellent medical benefit
  3. potential to get severance

VZ is here to stay and would survive easily than lot of others companies
During uncertain times , it is better to say with bigger , stable company
any big company as large as VZ, we are no more than a number

You can ask your manager or their to put you on the list if they need to reduce headcount. I know a few people that left and have increased their salary over 20k.
