Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

There are less and less people who care about their jobs here

Reading some posts on this forum, one could conclude that most of them don't care about their jobs anymore. But is that really so?
I tried to find a new job and despite my experience and skills, it turned out that I won't find anything better quickly. Until you find something new, why pretend you don't care about the job you have here?

Sounds like MM has a mutiny when the old deadwood so-called OverAchievers are out of ideas and want to resort to the old way instead of innovating. Good luck with that, old Cisco is dead

Cisco is fine. Easy to do the minimum and keep stress low. Great place to have work life balance and hide if you like. We test code drops and stopped getting on the first drop because the quality was so our our automation would always tip over. These days we wait for 4th or 5th drop and customer escalations before we get too serious, which means we have a fair amount of time to do other things outside of cisco like bike, golf or video games.

I see the “I left Cisco 19 years ago and they still want me back” guy is yet again posting on threads… get a life dude and MOVE ON. You clearly are attention seeking.

In other news: I used to care about my job and have tons of passion and put in all of the overtime, but Cisco has a way of sucking more and more time from you and making you feel like you aren’t giving enough. Folks on other teams working with me on key strategic projects are complete narcissistic a-*ole’s and question everything to the 10th degree and make any progress so hard and miserable. I could go on and on but this place is completely TOXIC. I interviewed different places for months until I found a good fit at another company and just accepted a role. Looking forward to being happy about the work I do again.

P.S. I’ve been told that Palo Alto has a hiring freeze against anyone currently working at Cisco…. Word is that they don’t want this toxic culture going there and polluting their workforce, even though Cisconians are an ideal fit for experience in the security space. So don’t bother applying to PAN until you’ve worked somewhere other than Cisco for a while…

Why wouldn't you do that. If you take Dec 22 - 23 off as PTO, then take the mandatory Dec 28 - 30 off for the year-end shutdown, you use 1 week's PTO (40 hrs) and get 13 consecutive days off, or 9 business days for the cost of 5 days PTO. That's almost double the time off for the number of days PTO.

I'm considering adding an extra day for the 4th of Jan.

When your one month “performance optimization” project tuns into a massive three year death march and your solution is far more cumbersome, fragile, buggy and oh by the way 13 times slower than what it replaced and everyone is hailing themselves as heroes for all the overtime they put in to get this checked in you realize many that see themselves as “overachievers” are far worse than deadwood and they need to go first.

I believe many employees, like us old-timers, still love Cisco because we remember the good ol' days.

Yeah, “the good ol’ days” when “overachievers” who broke far more than they fixed, being a big net negative to the company, could cash out millions in stock options. There is a reason 25 years ago Cisco was still growing through acquisition rather than its inability to do organic development.

In sane circles large rewards require large efforts. At least in the US where we’ve been adding over 500K jobs a month if you can’t move in this environment you better seriously reevaluate your “experience and skills.” The competent landed on their feet in the 2008 recession layoffs and the incompetent remained unemployed for years, ironically with some returning to Cisco as no one else would hire them. Take heed.

@1dyn+1i4p6zVE you’re probably a lazy manager just milking it like the rest of them. You probably keep the days for me email in your favorites and schedule all your vacations around the holidays. Just another yes man comment and does not understand the frustration of those who want the company to be great but happy dead weight like you Cisco will be obsolete sooner than later. Time for the overachievers to stand up and hold deadwood accountable.

Most employees on this forum are disgruntled but they don't represent the majority of the company. I believe many employees, like us old-timers, still love Cisco because we remember the good ol' days.

This is a funny forum. Just found this today. I’m a developer and got tired of MIG life. I started enjoying summer backing off work because my “supervisor” is a tool always throwing cr4p clean-up projects my way while his favorite villagers get fun assignments- if you consider 5g policy work fun. I’ve been able to carve out plenty of time interviewing other places. When I fund what I want, I’ll resign immediately. Sure my supervisor gets pi---d because I’m slipping projects but won’t do anything like putting me on PIP. He knows he will not get a backfill and data science is not thd easiest backfill. If you are considering cisco, I would advise looking at other options. Place is toxic. 2yrs good enough for me.

When you have a job, it’s easy to “apply” for new jobs without really applying yourself to the task.

At a minimum you should apply to 5 companies per week, preferably closer to 10. Simultaneously, you should be pushing yourself in your studies.

If you do that for a few months, you should be able to find something better.
