Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Not even a huge bonus would keep me here

It is still possible to find better opportunities out there, and I have become tired of EM.
Many people left because they were never adequately compensated for their work, although it seems to me that it's not all about money anymore. Would many still leave even if they got a huge bonus? I think they would.

If you are CL 29 or lower you can get $2000 a day as a annuitant consultant. Retire at 55 then hire back for your pay raise. You can negotiate a great day rate, when there is no one who can do your job...especially in small towns like Beaumont, joliet , Mont Belvieu, and Baton Rouge. If you are a specialist/world expert...then your rates can be even higher. Be sure and put a 100 day minimum per year in your contract. Then take half the year off.

I would leave. It won’t be the first time I left a good paying job because of issues unrelated to money and it won’t be the last. I will be RE soon and will be leaving early next year. I will probably need to find another job, but I will never stay this long in a toxic environment ever again.

Funny thing happened when I told my boss I’m retiring the moment I become eligible. He panicked and wondered if I’d think about postponing until I finished up a project and train a replacement. I chuckled and said, “No.” He assumed I said no because I had big plans I couldn’t postpone. When he asked if I had any exciting things planned, I said, “No. No plans at all.” It was a treat to see his befuddled expression. I quickly ended the conversation and went back to my desk with a big smile on my face.

@OP If you were capable of doing better you wouldn’t be posting this here.

Go ahead, quit and go to a competitor (to the extent that there is any competition between O&G companies, they’re more like a cartel than anything else.). You’ll be just as miserable there as you are at Exxon, where the pay is slightly better than the industry average and even less is asked of you, as if that were possible.

In no other sector of the economy will any of you be paid so much to do so little at your respective skill levels. I have no idea why all of you are complaining, or why any of you think you would do any differently if you happened to be in charge.

@gyl+1i4zTLBg Do you mean 'accept'? Given your condescending post, probably it's someone like yourself with weak language skills that will struggle outside of Exxon...

Limiting language to extensive use of Exxonese is career limiting...
