Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Busier than ever

With the attrition as high as it is, I've been busier than ever in the last few months. We've lost three team members and so far none of their positions have been backfilled. I'd like to think this makes me safe from coming layoffs, but this is Ford. They'll probably get rid of at least half of the remaining team and expect the rest to pick up all the extra work. Maybe being laid off wouldn't be the worse of the two options.

Being busy doesn’t protect you unfortunately. I was let go during SRD and had been working 50 to 60 hours a week for months and could have worked more and still been behind. I stayed in touch with some of my team mates and heard stories about the mess it caused. Delays, things being messed up, things getting escalated, other teams complaining because no one knew how to do the work I had been helping them with. It’s not about your workload it’s about how much money they can save if they let you go. They seem to consider only the savings of your salary, benefits and pension and give no consideration for the ripple effect or who will absorb the work left on your desk.

I always enjoyed my work but do have regrets about the amount of time and energy I put into it as it wasn’t valued. It may have even hurt me because giving 110% results in good reviews, a higher salary and greater savings when they let you go. I did make some wonderful lifelong friends and that I do not regret!

in the last SRD I saw a whole Team in Europe eliminated so no it doesn't mean anything. The team was eliminated in Europe and a new one replaced it in India.... But I am in IT so there is that but honestly if you wfh good chance there is a cheaper country to have employees. I remember this every time someone says why cant we be like Europe and have bazillion vacation days, free this and that. Nothing is Free....

And they wonder why the Wall Street Journal publishes an article about Ford's Poor Quality. Recalls and Warranty Costs are through the roof and worst in the industry since SRD started in 2018.

Same as earlier. I survived so many of these. But this time, I do not want to survive.

The fact that team member open spots have not been filled does not make you immune to layoffs. That happened to us in SRD. We were left with many gone and work shifted around as well as projects. Cannot do all the work. Just the bare minimum.
