Cost-cutting strategies

It seems to me that the leadership is not considering any options other than reducing the headcount. Are there any cost-cutting measures at Dell that don't involve layoffs?

It's all about OpEx: repeatable savings from reduced salary/headcount impact the bottom line much better than one-time cost reductions from limiting travel, expenses etc. Eliminating a $150k employee and replacing them with a $100k employee is a huge savings - even with a fat severance package involved.

Ehhh trimming the fat. By and large those who were laid off had it coming. Pi-s poor attitudes and terrible performance. Get valuable or get axed.

Who do you think you are John Byrnes? Been with Dell for over 16 yrs, worked my bu-t off, hit my quotas 95% of the time and got let go. Reason: I am tenured, too expensive and 65 yrs old. Nothing like a loud mouth punk mouthing off about something they have no idea about

Typical. Let a bunch of us go, and in a few months they will start hiring like crazy again. This is a repeat of the 2020 layoffs. If you are older and/or a woman, good luck. Dell loves white men. Good luck to everyone let go. Our managers have all known for at least 2 months.

Solid points, but pushing out and scapegoating high performers is the Dell way.

They could sack 1/3rd of payroll, and still be full of people who refuse to do any work.

They have been trying other options, we have been severely limited in travel (which will hurt future quarters revenue), raising prices and support cost, and also leaning on our partners (Intel, Broadcom, etc) for help. Agree with others that the fat needs to be cut, we have a lot of teams that do nothing (or the bare minimum) around here and they will lose the top performers if they don’t improve moral and quit being stingy.
