Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Wishing I had quit sooner

Dang wish I had quit sooner before interest rates reduced my lump sum payout. Was hoping for the PIP and tried to quit in place and just talk a lot in meetings but do no work. Backfired as my ranking actually went up. Go figure. Just reinforces my decision to leave though. Supervisor said I had found my voice and was displaying leadership potential. Who knew all I had to do was show up at meetings and talk a lot of nonsense then go and do nothing while my teammates picked up the slack for me.

Are you feeling envious?

Envy is much more corrosive to culture than whining.

Forced out and took pension lump-sum in 06/2021 with 10-year treasury yield at 1.14%, now, 3.32% and going higher. For 1% increase of yield, lump-sump decreases by 10-15%. My lump-sum is getting more and more valuable by the day. Thank you EM. LOL

@OP My guess is that at least one other person wishes you had quit sooner, and probably many more.

The company/industry is already toxic enough as it is. Nobody wants the constant torrent of whining from people way past their working prime, who incidentally also have maxed-out 401k’s, own overvalued McMansions, and are slurping up $180k+ per year to do practically nothing.

And everyone wonders why there’s no growth or innovation….

Oil and gas has devolved into a parody of itself. It used to be that people would at least go through the motions. Now, they don’t even do that.

I just want to GTFO out of here and get in to a smaller company where my contributions are needed, valuable, transparent and satisfying. I prefer to be excited and energized by my daily work. This ship is too big to feel that.

Same story OP. I started taking naps at work and my ranking went up. Got OwD last year. Who knew.

Next time just ask your supervisor to PIP you. Most will be glad for a volunteer.

I wished I quit earlier as well. I actually tried to do my best. However, talked too much at one meeting and one of the high level Manager didn’t like what I said because it was not consistent with the messages she/he was spreading. I didn’t even have any idea at the time. Complained to my boss rather than speaking to me. Wow, so much speaking up and telling the truth. Here your career can be derailed by speaking up against nonsense.

Wow ExxonMobil is really becoming a tragicomedy of "Office Space" epic proportions.

You should have spoken to Bob & Bob.

I had a friend go to HR and ask for PIL and they granted no questions asked.

I would have been able to spot it. Not my supervisor.
