Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

This is the Strategy

From Dell CFO
“ – Dell’s leadership team is also focused on developing young talent. “We continue to invest and hire in the undergraduate space,” Sweet says. “We wanted to ensure our entry-level programs into Dell, and our campus-level programs continue. We think the right thing to do over the long term is bringing that talent in, right out of school and develop them internally versus trying to go out and hire talent away from other companies.”

Hire young and cheap, remove older experienced, higher paid employees.

Now that is how you innovate.

Shocking! Why would young talent leave Dell when the NPS is so high? Maybe we should work harder on getting it higher. Nothing else matters, right?

Laid off in principle engineering role in Sept. 2020. Was asked if interested to fill exactly the same role but downgraded to Sr. Engineer and much much lower pay. Typical Dell.

Such a great American company, makes me feel so patriotic and proud to see them cut American employees while they continue to "invest" in overseas staff. Guess taking good jobs away from educated Americans that pay taxes is the Dell way.

Sounds like a plan for growth. Let a bunch of college grads in for 1 year or 2 if you are lucky, then train them up for the competitors

Dell demands loyalty from their employees but it is a one way street

They're doing this across all roles, not just entry-level. ISM2 performing at 124% when impacted by WFR in Aug.2020 - explicitly told it was because of OpEx. A mere 6 months later, posting to hire an ISM1 in the same division, same team. Difference in comp of $45k. Same strategy elsewhere in the org.

C'mon, obviously ol' farts will always find a reason to doubt this strategy.

Absolutely true, last year brief conversation with a VP and during the conversation they said:hiring out of schools doesn’t seem to be working too well. They get hired after they spend 2 years for some experience ,most of this time is training, add to the resume and leave to goto another company.

true! However, the younger generation will enjoy the training and when a right opportunity comes along they would not hesitate to leave!
