Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Why so much resistance towards working in the office?

Interestingly, some who first resented having to work from home, now resent having to work in the office. How is it that before the pandemic no one objected to doing their work in the office and now suddenly many are objecting to it?

Sorry, I meant per year of course. Saving on commuting, parking, lunch it was a huge windfall.

It’s “you’re”, but congratulations

It’s “you’re not too stupid”, but as a University of Phoenix graduate you know that of course.

I met their resistant gaze with a glop o’ glaze. That’s the mantra. Take for instance the meetings, scheduled for an hour, over in 15 minutes. Managers don’t get back to work, they BS for 45 minutes. The big brains. The parasites is more descriptive. You are bank in the office to justify their salaries.

How in the world do you figure people were saving $4000 a month??? That’s an insane statement.
And like the other poster said. We didn’t get raises, people that got promotions did not get raises to go with those promotions, healthcare got more expensive for employees… I wouldn’t even call it healthcare… It’s catastrophic insurance, our weekly hours was increased, etc.
The least they could do is leave me alone, let me keep working from home and quit pushing their political propaganda

Gotta go- Back to my water cooler conversation with somebody in another country….

Please show me who saved between $1000 - 4000 a month during covid. I did not..not even close. Yes I did nit pay for gas and parking but I also did nit get a raise and food other items increased in cost as did some he bills..so please don't ASSume people saved tons if money being at home. The individual who made the comment has to be another out of touch with their employees senior manager.

University of Phoenix, LOL… can we send you our pics and have us processed for hire? We work with our brains, not our non-essential demographic attributes. I certainly understand your issues and only wish you the best in learning how to hire.

This is so sad and pathetic… I’ve commuted two hours per day, paid for commutes and parking for 30 years. Hoofed and/or slid my way in through every massive snow storm in 3 decade… often stranded and thumbing...

Show me your work life balance and refund me my $2,400 since 2022.

Probably we should simply negotiate. There can be no doubt that we all saved between $1,000 to $4,000 a month during the COVID era. BNYM, our employer, did not.. in fact they lost money. But we, the employees, made out like bandits and paid down debt like never before with no commute, lower gas purchases and zero work costs.

Our employer has many stakeholders. That’s different than stockholders, for you associate degrees, University of Phoenix faux degrees & faux DEI hires. We pay all of the costs of HQs in multiple cities and costs of supporting these facilities.

Essentially it is time for all of us to be kicking in. We love to trash BNYM don’t we? But the truth is that it’s now time for all of us to pay back.

@OP why such a push to

In 2020 I got a pay cut by going from a 35 hour work week to a 40 hour work week. The hourly rate went down. In 2021 although I got a 1% merit increase of $950 they took away $1200 in HSA benefits that my wife and I earned on their fitness app. I now have to make up that $1200 by adding more money to my HSA contribution. Where has my salary increased to afford the increase in parking, lunch and gasoline to commute? It hasn't and this is an example of constant merit increases that do not meet the cost of living. So when I complain about having to come into the office, it is a legitimate complaint because I can't afford it anymore. My salary doesn't determine if I buy a new Mercedez Benz, it determines what groceries I can buy for my family.

For years, leaders talked big (and emptily) about work/life balance, when all the company did was offer brown bag lunch sessions on meditation and sleep.

Now that many/most employees have shown they can successfully work remotely… and have a better work/life balance, the company is saying no.

The company (just like most of the industry) doesn’t care about your work/life balance. Never has.

Before we had no idea how tired we are we're. How much the commuting truly cut into our days. For me it adds 4 hrs to my day. Now I use those 4 hours to work or take care of myself. And you know what..all my work gets done. When we are in the office we actually work less. Zero in person meetings so what is the point? So okay I will come back but don't complain when work gets behind and things are not done. Because now I work strictly 8-5, i take my hour lunch and breaks also when I leave the office that is it I do not turn on my computer when I get home.

I never heard anybody say that. I have heard many people ask if they were going to be paid for the hours added to their work weeks and complain about raises that don’t keep up with a fraction of inflation…..

Work day WAS added to. I am not talking about commute time.
NY went from 35 hours Per week to 40 and PIttsburgh went from 37.5 to 40… So my rate was cut

Reflecting on Feb 2021 when I was given a 0% raise and was told it was because of all the technology they had to invest in to WFH, that was when I decided I wasn't going to meekly RTO.

Look, your workday wasn’t “added to.”, it’s called a commute. Nobody will pay you to get to work, particularly when you had 3 years at home saving money like a bandit… probably you even bought a sweet new car

Peakon surveys have nothing to do with your commute.

I did object before Covid and I object even more so now that I was able to perform my job at home for 2 1/2 years. Further, our workday was added to. Adding , depending on what location you’re at , and extra five hours a week w/o compensation. It was easier to except when at least we were home.
Additionally, all they do is throw out their propaganda about work life balance in these stupid Pecon surveys that keep asking if you’re happy with your work environment yet we are forced to RTO.

I’m on calls most of my day with people in other countries. Half the time I can’t hear the person I’m talking to because people are jammed in like sardines and I hear the person sitting next to the person I’m speaking to better than the person I’m speaking to.

Even more so, some weren’t even allowed to come into the office because they were treated like they had leprosy by not being vaccinated. Now they’re forcing them in….

It’s all propaganda and we are their pawns in their scheme to keep as much money for themselves and give us that are doing the actual work as little as possible

Because we now know what work/life balance is like. Also it has been greatly proven that being in the office is no more productive than being home or anywhere. Who should we be forced into a space to performe the same job we can do anywhere but also have the bonus of extra time for what truly matters in life...living...family.
