Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Be grateful that Nike is a large corp

I'm not a fan of the anchor days, but I'm grateful that there's some flexibility. There are a lot of companies that are requiring in house five days a week even after they promised remote work. How does that work? No idea.

Pre-pandemic we didn't have this option. I do wish that Nike would match our "tech" competitors and offer fully remote. Not likely, but hopeful. I hope that we offer more flexibility as I feel there's less than before. Let your Manager decide. Give employees autonomy and the choice.

However, there are the lazy ones that don't really work and have actively taken advantage. We all know who we are talking about. And they get promoted? How is this possible when I work 5X more and then some? This is where Nike needs to focus and ensure the Managers, MANAGE!! There are a lot of lazy folks that have taken advantage even pre-pandemic. "My best friend is my Manager and I'm pregnant." They'll cover for me. Yah dah yah dah I'm frankly tired of it as a woman.

I want time, documentation of your work and the hours and accountability. Nike doesn't owe you a pay check. You owe Nike work; that's why you were hired. Crystal?

My apologies everyone for my diatribe. Do you ever feel like you're the only one working?

look, you don't actually have to work 5 times as hard as everyone else. you chose to, but you won't be rewarded for it and the manager won't give you a pat on the back or even a pizza party. i know this, because I used to do the same thing but I stopped after realizing that nobody gives a sh-t and that there is no benefit or promotion waiting at the end and no spiritual reward for working hard at a company that thrives off sweatshop labor, either. being your boss' extra hard working little B is not of benefit to you, it is only maybe of benefit to your manager's reputation or to the bottom line if you actually do something useful for the business. if you chose to allow the company to exploit your labor by working 5 times as hard as everyone else, that's really on you, don't blame other people for doing the bare minimum to not get fired, they really are probably hoping you'll chill out a little and will treat them like co-workers and have some solidarity but you will miss that point if all you do is be taskmaster 5000. what's even sadder is that when the layoffs come the hard workers get laid off just as easily as the smarter ones that don't play themselves for the boss, as they can just decide to lay off an entire department, team or the manager can chose who they like and that easily might not be you despite all your hard work. hard work is not a guarantee at all of getting bump you up in priority for not getting fired, despite what your pastor may have told you.

Be careful what you wish for. When you demonstrate that your job can be done from anywhere in the world it becomes a problem. Your competition is now global and there are many candidates willing to do your job from where they are living at a much lower salary.

"entitlement" is what it seems to be called for some folks working at Nike, and sorry to break it you it is present in all companies. My manager forced us to be in 3/2, no autonomy or whatsoever. You will always find a mixed bag of People who actually get s**t done even while WFH etc. but there are those who will throw a tantrum on the slightest sign of uncomfortableness, yea those need to be told to either accept the reality or GTFO
