Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Has anyone switched from a PIP to a PIL after the 30-day mark?

Has anyone successfully switched their PIP to a PIL once 30 days of their PIP has passed? How long did it take? Any advice?

Technically, it is up to the "discretion of the company" to approve the switch which is slightly worrying..

I did this. Had a lot of interviews lined up, started on the PIP, got several offers, than switched to the PIL.

Told my manager nothing. Just said that I could not trust someone going forward who would have put me in this situation in the first place.

Manager questioned me multiple times if I had something lined up. Told that id--t nothing… Took the PIL and got doubled paid for almost two months with 3.5 weeks of vacation as well. Even got a small bonus for a patent they filed months later. Really just makes you scratch your head what they are thinking.

Did not update LI till months later and still haven’t used my real start date. Started 2 weeks after the PIL ended….. At least that is what LI says.

I know a few people who have switched after 30 days without issue as others have said. Its really your 3 months to use however you want is how HR views it. If you were in my org (Manf site) I would tell you based on all the attrition and struggling to fill base roles I would take the PIP do the absolute bare minimum (eg only the explicit tactical things, not the soft skill development BS) while looking for the right job and then bail. At least for our site I honestly believe they wouldn’t fail anyone on a PIP as long as they were not harassing people or being belligerently insubordinate.

Just remember if you find that job inside of 3 months do not tell your managers just explain you no longer wish to work there and would like to pursue the remaining PIL.

No way they WOULDN’T honor it. I mean, you’ve pretty much decided at that point to leave company. So what are you gonna do if they say no? Work harder? He-l no, you’re gonna put your feet up and search for a new job for the next 60 days.

I did. Simply wrote an email to my supervisor and cc’d their manager. May have added some commentary.

They honored it immediately. No issues.

I to was “concerned” but they don’t seem to care. Whether you are there or not, 2 months of pay is nothing to XOM.

Funny, how when you have a family to take care of, that 2 months seems like the end of your world.
