Sabbatical Announcement

Am I reading the announcement correctly that unless you exactly hit one of the milestone anniversaries in the year 2023 no matter if you have already passed the 15, 20, 15 year mark, you have to wait until you actually hit the next milestone to be eligible for sabbatical? So if someone hit the 25 year anniversary this year, in 2022, that does not count and they have to wait until they. Hit the 30 year mark??

@6tkbh+1iJZqjNm - same!! Pi*e me off. My boss said, "you'll get it at 35".

Well, I SHOULD have gotten 30 AND 35. I told him not to bother, I don't plan on being here and have totally slacked off.

There are many of us who are FURIOUS. No fair people who have done HALF the time in this shi*show get extra time off.

Shame on them!

I hit 30 years in November of 22. Sabbatical started January of 23. People with half my years are getting time off and I'm told on my 35th year I will eligable to take mine as it will be my milestone year. I feel very cheated and unappreciated. I'm waiting for a class action of age discrimination and unfairness to be filed.

I hit 25 years in 2022. Since the program wasn't rolled out to everyone until 2023 I have to wait five more years before I am eligible in year 30 assuming I make it that far. Bad timing for me. I may never be able to take advantage of the program despite being here my whole working life.

I hit 25 years in 2024 and plan to take a sabbatical and give a 2 week notice right before I am scheduled to return.

Just another backward azz move by a Backward Azz Company (BAC). I have been telling you guys on this board for the past year this company makes no sense.

@1rjr+1iJZqjNm - been here 30+ years, milestone 2 years ago (during GBAM pilot which we were not "eligible" for -- even though I have only supported GBAM in an enterprise role the entire time). Most of us will not be here long enough to take this sabbatical ONE time, much less TWICE!

Totally unfair. If some junior (excuse me if that's some of you) can take 4 weeks at 15 years, then how is 6 weeks -- when I 've served DOUBLE the time -- only in a "milestone" year -- which I won't even be here for long enough to take ONCE -- how is that "fair"?

I do not want RTO, but want WFH
It is unfair to only give a pay increase to those making less than 100k
I truly believe the company is not being fair on the above points
But, I will say that I appreciate the sabbatical benefit which I think is fair as it is limited to two times. And I am saying this as a long time employee.
We can't have everything we want, but if WFH was allowed for those with not customer facing jobs and increase for those that make less than 250k, the overall benefit would result in ESAT scores being similar or better than they were during the pandemic

@1yhx+1iJZqjNm - spot on! They obviously only care about the more junior ranks and see this as a way to (sorta) golden-handcuff them to stay on the promise of a sabbatical some day.

No care for rewarding those who have stayed thru all the cr-p they've dished out over the years and the management regimes that just get worse and worse.

But the joke is on them fooling themselves that this will make juniors stay. They'll just ask their new employer for more money and/or vacation to make up the diff. Buh bye.

I really think this is just an attempt to get some good press.

What room full of clueless people came up with this, and what empty head approved it with this format? People with senior milestone years this year or last year will spend the next 3-4 years picking up extra work while their junior colleagues hit milestones and take off. How hard would this have been to roll out to senior tenure first and then roll the lower tiers in over time? And if people may only take 2 total, why not let them take it any time in that 5 year time slot is the purpose is to give it to them when they need it? Let the business manage time off. It's a noble attempt but with horrible execution: par for the course here. It's yet another attempt to create discord and give longterm employees another reason to quit, without being liable for severance. The sycophants in Flagscape comments who say to just be happy you got something at all are being outnumbered 10-1 by people pointing out the deficiencies of this rollout. You can't tell though because the view resets when you try to load more or like any content.

These brain dead lizards truly only think about people's needs as far as a spreadsheet can lead them. We are all just numbers/data points to them. Whatever soul this company may have once had, it is long dead. Whenever they talk about values it's like listening to a robot who memorized a beginner's manual on human values. I'm pretty much done with all of it.

You get full pay during your time. They put a cap of two times in tour career. I know folks who have had more than two sabbaticals. Just glad they opened it to the whole bank. This place has different rules for all lines which is B s.

You get salary and healthcare benefits during the sabbatical.

But if you are eligible for bonus, it will be reduced by the % working days that you are on leave.

Age-ism. At 30 years, I've done done double the time of 15 year, but only get 2 weeks more? How is that even fair?

Agree those who've already hit milestones should get a "make good."

Actually several!!

This place will ki-l us before we reach the next "Milestone".

This speaks volume of how the bank treats those who have been loyal to the company. Mgmt thinks this is brilliant way to cull the old-timers without paying their severance package. Terrible !

Those of you with "Discretionary Comp" (e.g, year-end bonus), you can bet that will be PRO-RATED for the time you are away.

And good luck ever getting that restored to the previous level.

That's how the pilot in GBAM worked. Can't imagine, they'd add anything when it goes enterprise wide. My team was pi**ed to discover that when we became eligible for the pilot.

EXACTLY - I already asked my manager and HR about this. "No expections"

So (excuse me if this fits you), some doofus with only 15 years - hitting their mileston THIS year -- gets and extra 2 weeks.

Meanwhile, I hit 35 in 2021 ago, and get bupkus. Not even an extra 2-week to match the (excuse me, again, lowly 15 year person) I think I should get my 35, 30 and 25 over 3 years for my service.

I was told "oh, well, you will get it at 40 years"

Like I am going to stay for that. F.U.

Terrible way to kick folks in the pants. If they are concerned about spacing it out, then start with the most tenured first. For example, 40 yrs and up start in 2023. 30 yrs and up in 2024. Etc. This has really hurt morale of some of the people who have given the most.

more program criteria:

  • Employees who choose to take a sabbatical, must take it in their milestone year.
  • A sabbatical must begin and end in the milestone year.
  • Unused sabbatical will be forfeited; not eligible to be paid out.
  • Sabbatical cannot be taken in increments; it must be taken all at one time and be a minimum of one week.

You can’t have the whole company take it in 2023. They needed a way to control the number of people eligible to take it in any given year, especially the first year that it’s available.

You can't let everyone take it at the same time. It does suck if you have to wait 4 years though

i'm interpreting it a bit differently. If you already hit one of the milestones, you will not be able to take your first sabbatical until your next anniversary date in 2023. And then you will be eligible for the 2nd one at the next milestone year.

I hit my 30 in June. Excuse me for being salty about all the associates with 15-plus who will get sabbaticals over the next 5 years until I can take advantage of the program (assumingI am still here). It is just like when they raised pay for entry-level and lower-tiers only, once again the most senior people are treated the worst. Are they blind to this, incompetent, or intentionally unfair?

Program is 4 weeks sabbatical for 15 years, 5 weeks for 20 & 25 years, and maxes out at 6 weeks for 30 years +. So employee #1 hits their 15 year anniversary in 2023, bo-m!, eligible for a sabbatical same year. Employee #2 hit their 25 year anniversary in 2022, so even though they have 10 years more service with the Bank than employee #1, they have to wait an additional 5 years, until 2027, to be eligible for the same sabbatical program (with a couple extra weeks thrown in)? This was the big tease for those that did not receive the June cost of living increase…that the sabbatical program was “coming soon” . Another disappointing and discouraging move by the Bank. I hope I am just misinterpreting the sneak peak announcement from today. Widespread notice to be published 9/15.
