Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Resigning soon

I'm resigning in 2 weeks. What should I make sure I get a copy of before that?

Don’t forget anything stored in Box (or OneDrive) that you want to keep.

Foolishly I had stored some personal stuff in Box that is now lost.

If you have a company funded mobile phone with the mobile device manager loaded, make a backup of any contacts on your phone that you added after you loaded the MDM. Why? When you finally get disconnected from the Cisco network, you'll lose all of those contacts off of your phone. Hugely frustrating if you added any personal contacts to your phone after the MDM - those go away.

I would make sure you keep track of any PTO times is available for you, submit any expenses reports too. Go though your emails and update anything you use your Cisco email address for. I resigned 3 years ago and they shut off my access a couple of days early. I would have a sense of urgency to get this done.

As mentioned above, get receipts for turning in Cisco assets, your corp credit card if you have one, and your badge.

You will want to print out your ESPP purchase history if you still own Cisco stock. Same for options and/or RSU's.

Download your most recent paystub. You should get your final one attached to your final check since it will be a live check and not direct deposit. Download your paystub history if you want.

If your cell phone service is paid through Cisco, you'll want to open a case to transfer it to personal liability if you want to keep your phone #, otherwise just contact your carrier to activate your phone on a new number. You'll want to remove any mobile device management profiles off your phone.

Contact HR and find out how to access ADP (payroll) externally as you won't have a "trusted device" any more so you can get your year-end W2 statement electronically.

I don't know where it moved to, but you used to be able to request online a "verification of employment" (VOE) letter. It's worth having as some companies need proof that you've worked at the companies you've previously worked for. Not surprisingly, Cisco's background check on me got hung up on not being able to verify that I'd previously worked for Cisco and would not accept their own VOE letter as proof!

Copy contact info (names, emails & phone #'s) of those you want to keep in touch with.

Make sure that, if you're copying anything off your Cisco laptop, to do it before you give notice. Depending on your role, they may walk you out the door immediately, or they may install monitoring software on your laptop to watch what you do during your last 2 weeks. Any/all data copied to USB drives is flagged and someone from HR will review it. If it looks suspicious, they'll contact you, ask you to re-attach the USB drive you used and show them the data you copied to ensure it's not company data. And if that data is not still on that drive, so you can't prove it's not company data, they take disciplinary actions against you.

Get written acknowledgement for any physical assets of the company you have returned including computers, monitors and any hardcopy material or files. Be specific in your inventory list. If they refuse to sign, take pic of the person you provided your inventory list to.

Anything that you may need in case Cisco gets antsy later on. For example, any patent that you may have written for Cisco that have filed but not published - make sure you have docusigned copy in case Cisco try to shaft you later on.

Copy your contacts out of outlook. You will lose them all when your account shuts out. Also be sure to do the exit survey before the end of business on your last day if you choose.
