Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

It's a different company

When I first joined Exxon two decades ago, the company was filled with motivated employees who wanted to get the job done, no matter what. What happened to all of them? Nowadays, all I hear is whining about how hard work is or how the company expects too much of you. You're not going to achieve much for yourself or for the company with that attitude.

@2jzk+1iNqHp0n Not sure if you are EX-EM or not, but your behaviours would make you an excellent candidate for us. Let me know how your application goes.

@1tdw Nice try.

I think you’re probably right where you belong. Stay there.

Fakoff boomer.
We hate oil and gas, the only reason we stick around this BS company is to keep milking it in silence until the last drop of sweet fatty milk, in exchange of shaiza

@spe+1iNqHp0n Yes, very clear, thanks. Now, please share your current company so that I can reject the offer.

OP, what is a corporate boot li---r like you doing on a site like this? Shouldn’t you be on LI, desperately posting there to improve the tarnished image of the company?

@ycj Since you’re still at Exxon I assume that you can’t do any better.

FYI: there’s a glut of self-styled “experts” consisting mostly of senior/RE employees from large operating companies. You know, the ones who stay on because they “love what they do”, yet are applying anywhere and everywhere. Don’t count on your perceived status to make you marketable. You’re not as much of a commodity as you think you are.

The highly motivated individuals got the job done already by voting with their feet.

“It's a different company”

Great, more lamenting for the “good old days” from a lifer who doesn’t know how or when to move on. Just what the world needs more of.

How about this: why don’t some of you lifers grow a pair and start your own firms in your own image?

If you think you can do better then call your own bluff and start a business or quit. Otherwise, stop the incessant whining and lamenting. A while ago someone was complaining about other people eating lunch while they were in a Zoom call. Really. I think about this kind of stuff when someone sends me a resume from a current EM employee…and I’m not the only one.

Company is unrecognisable in the last 3 years, it's not taken 2 decades to change... That's from me approaching 3 decades in the company.

It’s not whining. People expect to be treated fairly and rewarded/ recognized for a job well done. When I mean rewarded, it’s not simply money. It is not happening here.

No other major has such an active Layoff site. This is a reflection of the poor job the company has done in the treatment of its people. It is also reflective of the weak culture, the lack of leadership, and the lack of trust.

This is simple. The day to day working conditions, compensation, internal job security, and external industry outlook are worse than they were two (or even one) decades ago, at least for the average EM employee. That means the overall value proposition of a job at EM is a lot less than it was 20 years ago. Compensate people less, and they won't work as hard on average and even when they do, their attitudes will be worse. You get what you pay for.

It's odd to me you've been around for 20 years and yet you're blind to this decline.

The have a different take. I don’t think the people have changed that much. I do think the company has changed significantly for the worse. I suppose if you are a HiPo and the party has kept going you may feel differently but for the majority of us this is not the same ExxonMobil we hired into.
