Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Sub package

Can someone please confirm that it is still two weeks for every year an employee has worked here? Or is there now a cutoff date? I was trying to find the thread that discussed this but was unable to locate it.
I am getting worried and just want to plan ahead.

Like so many benefits people can have radically different deals. Some people get SUB, others get Severance… even if they’re similarly aged, tenured and grade. It’s all part of the weird world of HR, which exists only to hide your deal.

It’s not severance. When you get a job it’s over.

I think they cap it at 52 weeks of severance. I know in Massachusetts (no idea if its state specific or not) you have to file with unemployment and bnym keeps track of it. The day you get another job they stop their severance checks coming. Maybe the hire ups get a lump sum but not the normal grunts. They just keep sending you a check every pay period until you either run out of the severance or you get another job. Thats what a couple people told me that got canned anyway. Can't completely confirm since it hasn't happened to me yet.

Generally, yes, it is 2 weeks for every year of service. Depending on your position, you may have started out with a minimum. For instance, I was hired with 4 weeks worth, and then tack on 2 weeks for every year of service.

think it varies by country, so perhaps post your country to get a more specific response
