Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Total by Verizon

So now we have yet another cellular company (Total by Verizon). Verizon Wireless, Tracfone, Visible and now Total? The wasteful ideas being implemented just continue on and on.

Telecom is becoming the auto industry of the past where GM had Cadillac, Chevy, Pontiac, and Olds sharing the same chassis with just different options. Ford had Lincoln, Mercury, Ford and Chrysler had Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler. Now what exactly happened to Pontiac, Mercury, and Plymouth? Yeah, they figured it was such a great idea after all in the long run.

Not leading the market on this. Trailing way behind. Straight talk launched 12 years ago. We are WAY behind. Hope it was worth the 7 billion.

It's not rebranding TracFone.. it's rebranding an existing brand Total wireless. Ideally it's a segmentation play for customers who are leaving Verizon for lower cost prepaid.. rather than losing them to a competitor. The drawback is that it does risk undercutting postpaid further. Using the Verizon name has always been the hesitation.. but I guess here we are.

Verizon bought French Oil & Gas company Total ? Brilliant!

Perhaps that move helps the business stop melting like an ice cube.

Invisible is what Many people call Visible. Non existent customer service, lost numbers, overseas “support”, swap program which charged people $150 for phones they sent in. What a hot mess.

Anyone else feel that at this point we’re just throwing sh-t at the wall and hoping something sticks?

If we were consolidating all of our prepaid brands under the Total umbrella, I would get it, but like many others I think it just adds more confusion in the marketplace. And confusion = loss in brand value.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

I had the same thought. Another brand to add confusion to the marketplace.

I briefly looked at the Total plans and maybe I am missing something. Sure, I get that they are month to month no commitment but they look like they line up almost identically with the VZW plans as far as price and features. Again, maybe I am missing something beyond the no monthly commitment.

That being said, it seems to me that the value segment that Tracfone was aimed toward is no longer the target audience.

Maybe I'm wrong.......

It's now called "catch all" marketing. You have many different names (Same basic product), the customer just chooses one to move forward. The jury is still out as to whether this works, considering the additional expense involved. What will they think of next?

Just this morning someone asked me about TracFone and Visible by Verizon and what was the difference. Now we are rebranding TracFone as Total by Verizon? As a long time employee I'm confused, I can't imagine how confusing this must be for our consumers. Isn't it all essentially the same prepaid cellular service? But now with added expense for unique storefronts, branding, uniforms and collateral!
