Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is becoming a big mess.

I don't know how some departments here will survive any more layoffs or retirements..

@1qds+1iQzY03q - first hint as the "free" bit, nothing in business is ever free. Anyone saying is saying that they're going to end up charging you later, and it's going to be a lot more than expected. This approach reminds me of "first sample is free" druq pusher stereo-type where things only go downhill from the start.

This is par for the course. It’s been this way for many years. They always get by. This time it will be with resources fro Mexico, Brazil, and India. I just wish they would include the LL4+ crowd.

The writing is on the wall for all the IT infrastructure and operations teams - mass layoff once Kyndryl gives the thumbs up on ready to fully take over. Management has been clever/sneaky.
First they said Kyndryl is giving us some free resources to augment our staff.
Then they said well we can’t find qualified people to backfill the people we fired/retired so we are letting Kyndryl do additional low cost staff augmentation.
Now they are ‘asking’ who is retiring this year to avoid 20% decline in Lump Sum.
Anyone paying attention can see next is fire everyone who is left as Kyndryl is clearly more capable / just as capable as the Ford staff. AND they are cheaper.

I my 2 years at Ford before being let go August 22nd, as a software develooper I found the work/life balance to be very good compared to other companies I've worked at such as Motorola, where 50+ hour work weeks was the norm as well as additional hours to make up for vacation time taken (even though it was supposedly factored into schedules). With all these cutbacks, that's how management will "get by with less". Get ready to work 10 hour days including frequent weekend work. Scrum teams deciding how much work they can do in a sprint? What a joke, you'll be told "find a way to get it done".

Anyway good luck to all of you still there.

Becoming? Ford has ALWAYS been a mess. I worked there for 33 years and it was ALWAYS a huge mess. I honestly don't know how that company stays in business!

They will survive the same way they have survived since the beginnings of SRD in 2018. Based on all the promotions, things must be going great.

I don’t know that “is becoming” is the right way to describe it. More like “has been for a long time and getting worse”

They let people go, constant re-org, confusion, and so deliverables are late but they won’t adjusting program timing….so what does that tell you about the quality of things in the pipeline…,.
