Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I wouldn't be surprised by even greater attrition after these cuts

Morale is at an all time low. Some of those who have been laid off say that they are actually happy that they are finally out of this company, while others are concerned about how things will work out for the survivors after the layoffs. I am giving myself a deadline to leave if I don't get cut because this will only become an even bigger mess.

They dont want you back. Hint; if you are laidoff just move on. Your time at at&t is best viewed in the rearview mirror. Just get over it, it was a good run.

Some of these posts are laughable. Realize, there are folks who work at T that have real responsibilities. Where training isn’t available because of the heavy workload, vacation is taken in December because that’s when you are forced to take or lose it, you really have no idea what’s going on within the company because you are nose to the grind 12 hours a day with no lunch. Yes that is T for a lot of folks. It will become reality for a lot more employees in the near future.

"I haven't had any training from the company in more than 15 years. I would say my technical skills are no better now than they were 30 years ago."
With internal training resouces like T University, TechSpot, Spotlight, PLE, and even ERGs focus on technology aside from certification courses some free some paid but can be reimbursed through tuition aid..HOW can you not have increased your knowledge in the last 30 years with a little effort? Were you maybe unaware of these online resources to employees?

I haven't had any training from the company in more than 15 years. I would say my technical skills are no better now than they were 30 years ago. I would be hard pressed to transfer my skill set or lack of to another company while job hunting. That's why I'm not going anywhere. I will stay with T until forced out. I think this is the sentiment of many T employees. I know I have become stagnate!

T has the upper hand in this situation. Longer term employees around for more than 10 years have often stagnated and no longer have relevant skills in today's current technical workforce. Even though department workloads increase with hiring freezes and terminations, remaining employees often have no external options and will stay until forced out. Remaining employees know it. T management certainly knows it.

If you survive this year and the hiring freeze is lifted next year, come over to Business Field Services where there is a demand for personnel, managers and technicians, there's a need for techs to do the installs. I don't see anybody in this progressive organization losing their positions anytime soon!
