Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How many?

How many headcount do we need to reduce to be competitive? I say 30K, but it could be more. I don't see Hans offering any incentives to leave. Will these reductions be layoffs? The whole telecom industry is reeling now, layoffs everywhere we look. After awhile it just wears you down to a nub.

It is a race to the bottom for consumer wireless. It is a mature industry that is close to decline. People won’t replace their phones every two years like you built your operating model. Back to basics will ki-l the company. Consumers don’t notice any difference between carriers. They will switch back and forth like cable TV and satellite TV. Only consumer willing to pay for 5G and MEC is businesses where latency mean dollars. To general consumer latency means nothing, but don’t tell Hans or Kyle they don’t know any better

Are all the employees being laid off being branded with the DO NOT REHIRE scarlet letter? I heard yes!

At end of 2021 VZ had 118k employees TMO had 75k. I don't see VZ dropping below that level. Our trend has been to drop close to 5k a year.

Competitiveness though? That has to do with who you have, your strategy, and execution of that strategy. Right now I think we are did ing in too many directions which has gotten us away from doing the basics well. I'd suggest we could drop "10k idea men" and the employees supporting products and services not tied to our core offerings and not miss a beat. We simply don't have the ability to absorb change, the capacity, or the budget to chase every 'good idea'.

Layoffs aren't going to help us suddenly turn into a company where the network is great again and we are raking in the money hand over fist.

You could RIF at least half of the IT Director and above and wouldn't skip a beat.
