Two job offers in as many weeks

Don't tell me it's not easy to find a new job. I started casually looking a month ago and I already managed to get two decent offers. One is from another O&G company and another is in another industry but it's still my field. There are many options available. If you are not finding any openings, you are not looking hard enough.

Plenty of O&G-adjacent companies are hiring, tech, mining, alternative energy, manufacturing, defense, etc. The key is being able to translate your EM experience into something that recruiters at other companies can understand.

US Gov jobs have lots of openings, salary is not as good but some more flexibility with WFH in several area's. General Dynamics / Electric Boat has a lot of great jobs for Engineers & Planners good benefits and cool to work on submarines. My interview is next week!

Same. It’s not hard to get offers.

@uft If by “culture shock” you mean the reaction they have when they told they’re not awesome and won’t be getting $500k/year to open a laptop, then yeah, it’s a big problem.

I’ve personally been taken aback by just how little people with years of “experience” at Exxon know and are able to do. Seems to me that the company hides incompetence at every level. I’m seeing people with more than a decade of experience who can’t use MS Excel or format a MS Word document. You know, basic white-collar job skills.

The only problem Exxon employees will have moving to a different E&P is culture shock. It will be tough for them to feel empowered to make their own decision. If you’re adaptable and capable, it’s worth it for the accelerated career growth and benefits.

@OP Nobody said it was hard to find a new job. The market is still hot.

The problem for Exxon employees is that they’re unable or unwilling to move on even though in many cases they should.

Going to another O&G company isn’t going to fix anything. Same BS, same management, different corporate logo.
