Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Are all SSRs/CEs/technicians going to be moved to an external company?

Anybody hear anything more about this? Or just a rumor?

The restructuring continues. IBM will most likely exit the commodity HW market as there isn’t any profit in it. Bring on SW defined, as that’s where the profit resides.

My experience as a subc was that I earned less than direct FTE's... not "3x" as cited above.

Agreed, Boulder is mondo expensive. Priced like California... with lousy weather to boot. Never have understood the markup there.

Mork & Mindy effect? LOL!

Almost all CE's and SSR's are subs now.

Nobody could afford to live in Boulder, CO on a SSR band 03 salary?
The subs are paid up to 3X what an FTE earns.

IBM has been shopping parts of the infrastructure division forever. Bain recommended spinning parts of it off back in 2018/2019 as they didn’t align with the go forward enterprise Redhat/Hybrid cloud strategy. TSS generates approx 6 billion a year in revenue, BUT it is shrinking at 4-6% a year, so viewed as a millstone. (2022 should see very little shrink) NOTE TSS is still quite profitable especially when you incorporate the “exclusive” IBM HW and SW offerings, so IBM is trying to structure a “partnership” with another entity where both owners will share costs and split profits. It really boils down to harvesting the legacy IBM investment to fund the go forward Redhat/hybrid cloud strategy. IBM wants to be a two division company (consulting/ SW company) and Infrastructure is viewed as just a cost of doing business. Once a partner is found, the final shoe of the restructuring will become apparent
