Trying to keep a job

I don't know any other way for employees to try to keep their job, except to give their best, add value and be maximally engaged. However, we all know that this does not mean anything at Fido anymore, because even the best ones who we thought would never be cut still got cut in the end.

Does this mean that there is no way for a person to at least slightly increase the chance of keeping his or her job?

There's a big world outside of Fidelity and it pays a lot more

BeenThereDoneThat - You are 100% correct. You can be the best employee and just get caught in the wrong spot at the wrong time. In 2008 hundreds of dedicated hard working people who put working at Fido above everything walked out the door with a package and a cardboard box. I did not get cut but that day changed me forever and made me fully understand you are just a number.

It’s not what you know, but who you know. I see this on a daily basis at Fidelity.
So pucker up and kiss some a-s or you’ll get nowhere at Fidelity.
With regards to surviving a RIF, it’s all numbers…people making the decision do not know or care how hard you work or how valuable you are to the company.
We’re all just a resource and an expendable one at that.
