T used to do it all in house, I mean everything. Nowadays they contract everything out to 3rd party vendors. It really a shame, they think they are saving money but I doubt they are. It's really sad to see, I hope someday things change, and we get back to performing all work in house.

Hiring contractors for everything doesn't make any sense. They actually cost more money than T workers. Go figure.

Typical corporate schmuck that would have no idea what contractor work really looks like because she would never want to go outside and get her hand dirty or break a sweat. Just keep thinking your precious job can’t be contracted out either, sweetheart.

Wrong. I work in the field and see the cr---y contractor work with my own eyes. Would someone honestly think they’d get quality work from a bunch of contract techs with face piercings and neck tats, which is what I see every day with these guys?
Gotta say contractors do bad work when their job is threatened. Cheap cop-out.
I see the work that the contractors do firsthand and it is absolute garbage. They might be saving a little bit of money, but the quality is just absolutely terrible, not to mention contractors take longer to do the same jobs as employees because they are using antiquated tools and equipment compared to what regular employees use.

This is 100% management's fault. Contractors aren't held back by ridiculous policies or micromanaging metrics.
In all my years with ATT and I’ve had more than 3 decades, I have never met a manager that truly impressed me with either their intelligence, style, charisma, awareness or leadership skills. That’s a sad commentary, but it’s true! I always look back and ask myself, “I wonder who he knew?” As it turned out, it was always a long line of formerly employed relatives.
Regarding outsourcing, it's cheaper, primarily because the internal management is pi-s poor and ineffectual. Let's just say that the leadership weren't put in their positions on account of competence.
You think techs are bad. You better wise up. The only person profiting is the contractor charging more than what att needs. att is too big to audit contractors so they over charge and keep the abundance of resources for their side jobs. double dipping driving their new 100,000 dollar trucks?
When we were rebadged, we were told one of the reasons was tax laws made it more favorable to make us contractors working for the company.
One thing is for sure, they stopped caring about quality and safety a long time ago.
But but make sure you take the required EH&S classes to help absolve the company from serious liability if you happened to get injured on the job. Quality of anything is more or less non existent
BFS is keeping all of its work in-house as much as they can. Since there is a hiring freeze and techs are needed for the over abundance of work, I'm sure they'll be forced to outsource some of the work at some point.
