Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Ford is not seeing the big picture

Ford is quick to lay off older employees and replace us with a younger, cheaper workforce. Here's the thing they keep forgetting or ignoring to the company's detriment: newer generations have a completely different work ethic than we do. They don't go out of their way to do something that's not within their job description. They are not as quick to sacrifice their evenings or weekends for the good of the company. They have no issues with leaving for another job within a few months or years of taking a job. Yes, they might be cheaper, but when you take all of this into account, I think Ford will have a major problem on its hands within a few years when most of us are out and the majority of the employees think quiet quitting is the way to work.

Anyone else seeing the irony of old,. White men deciding that old, White men aren't what are needed? If they'd start that mentality with themselves, then none of the layoff actions would be necessary.

Bill, Jim, Doug. What do they all have in common? Old. White. Should already be retired.

Nothing matters anymore. We all need to move on. Sorry, our management wants this based on their actions. And the rest of us need to decide in our best interest. Good luck to all. I'm gone.

Not sure age is the issue. I fall in the 50+ category, and worked with MANY employees of my age that would never work a weekend, never over 40 hrs, never more than asked, took 2 hr lunches, left early, and never really "worked" during the full 40! It's a mindset. If Ford doesn't expect you to do any of these things, and your management is blind, that mindset will live on. Set expectations, monitor workload, and make employees earn their salary.

I'm over 50, sorry... but the majority of people I know under 30...

  • Won't shop anywhere unless it has an app.
  • Will not work for a company without 3 days work from home minimum. preferably 5
  • Brag about how much no work they do while they are supposed to be working
  • Think in terms of, if my task is done I do no more, time for me
  • Will not go an extra inch, let alone a mile for work
  • Look actively for better pay with less responsibility
  • Do not believe anything you say, or are wiser about if you are 40 and up.
  • Say their loyalty lasts until the next paycheck
  • Believe moving every 6 months is perfectly reasonable 'putting in their time'

I could go on. I am not anti-youth but if Ford is staffed with these people.... Henry Ford can say goodbye to the great company he created.

You should buy the most reliable vehicle that meets your needs. That actually rules out most Ford's.

I'm in coorporate Quality and based on data I ONLY recommend used 2015-2017 5.0 F150's to my friends who need a truck.

And if you are cut will you ever buy another Ford? Not me.

It has to be out of mind for someone to even work on weekend.

Who would do that?

I prefer to sleep like a cat then. or cuddle with my cat and sleep than work over the weekend

Plus, the ones who are let go are going to the competitors who are beating us at our game.

You forget that those people will soon be in leadership positions and will reinforce that behavior, thereby dropping productivity actors the board.

OP…are you trying to say that older generation can be abused more than the newer generation and still being letting go?

Loyalty is a 2 way street. If Ford is not being loyal to their employees, why should these same employees be loyal to Ford and only purchase their vehicles. They’re dreaming.
