Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

The biggest drivers of attrition

Attrition seems to be higher than ever (I can't say it's the highest since I don't have the numbers to back it up but it certainly seems to be up there). I wonder what are the main reasons that are making people opt to leave when the company is doing as well as it ever did. Is it pay? The lack of job security? Politics? Something else?

Not all of us are “here”, you management mo_ron. Some of us have retired, some have quit and got better jobs - we’re coming back to this site to call things as they are and giving a huge middle finger to boot licking parasites like you.

Bent me over two years in a row with outrageous ranking. Continuous Bullsh-t lies from boss. Now, resumes out everyday. They are screwed when I leave, By screwed I mean severe delays to new production. It will cost them millions upon millions. I am a ly--h pin. I will give zero days notice. FVCK ‘EM!!

I left last month after 13 years.

The reason is the fake performance review, insufferable and morally corrupt management community, and the miserable salary increases that have not kept up with inflation.

What a garbage of company.

Some people feel disengaged, even cynical about Exxon. For me it came to the point it became hateful by every fiber of my soul.

If this is happening to you, give yourself the gift of stopping doing what you hate.

Resign too.

And yet…

All of you are still there.

If you dislike Exxon as much as you say you do then you shouldn’t even bother going to work tomorrow. The fact that you are implies that you can’t do any better, or that you don’t know when to move on.

I no longer believe my contributions are valued nor will be fairly assessed. I don't believe our managers are "the best" nor have any unique contribution to guide us.

That's the biggest crock of sh-t saying those managers can't do anything about the reasons people are leaving. You have people managing e tire organizations who say they're powerless, yet they're the ones who implement the assessment system.

The company top-down believes:

that hard assets are far more valuable than soft assets (people) but both should be run to failure;

that process and discipline is more important that Inspiring leadership;

that greed and deception are virtues;

…and once upon a time there we’re just enough who did NOT believe that or at least had the sense to temper those beliefs but sadly, no more.

The demise of a once great company - the leading indicators being the loss of people not profit .

So OP, the assertion that they are doing better than ever is dubious.

Tick-tock, Tick-tock, bo-m!

No trust, veiled lies, ridiculous ranking, low or no raises, bs office politics, job security. The real question is why does anyone stay? It’s not the place it once was and no REAL attempt to understand concerns.

  • Career progression
  • Compensation
  • Work load/Stress

The company culture is toxic, management are robotic and can only quote their “Principles” when it comes to salary reviews.

Toxic assessment process breeds mediocrity and resentment.
Laying off employees to give the work to incompetent MSPs, who are also experiencing attrition.
LPS gives lip service to safety and checks a box - it’s all about the metrics and not about keeping people safe.
Pay used to be superior - it’s not anymore.
Attrition is high but headcount target is lower than where we are now so don’t expect any changes in the short term.

Most current employees just can't take it anymore. They've had it. Everybody wants to leave except the ones making a ton of money. Where else are they going to make 500K or more? So, the bend over and smile.

Forced ranking and annual layoff disguised as PIP (PIT).

The EM culture is such that every great idea that I have I wonder how many others are trying to claim credit for it.

My new ignorant inexperienced Supervisor is more worried about “framing” our actions in one pagers to her boss that she is worried about getting work done that directly affects profits.

Forced ranking, perpetual PIT, and politics of sponsorship are the root causes of daily actions at EM.

We tolerated so much over the years in exchange for job security.

Security was removed.

Attrition is much higher than typical based on data I’ve seen in BR. Also heard thru my manager that our plant manager said it’s the highest he’s ever seen and he’s probably sitting at 30 or so years with XOM.

Managers now seem slightly panicked, going straight to people they know have had several friends quit and asking if they are thinking of leaving too. Seems silly for them to ask because the reasons most are leaving are not anything those managers can change. We are routinely told they can’t change anything. Maybe that’s true or maybe they’re not willing to take on enough risk to demand change. Manufacturing sites know they can run their business if they keep losing their talent.

It's a matter of expectations. When we all joined EM we all were thrilled that we have the opportunity to he part of one of the great American companies. For all the reasons discussed many times here, we are all disappointed at different levels after the debacle we witnessed past few years. Many of us our being proactive and pursuing different opportunities now. That's all.

People have not forgotten about how EM has treated them and have lots all trust. Either that or the non competitive (or misguided info on why we are competitive with companies that do not compete for the talent), EM trying to actively have HC10 countries lose enough talent as possible or maybe boasting about record profits without willingness to share any with their non executive employees. The fact that we seem to not care anymore is such a telling sign
