Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

During Covid, I worked from my cubicle on campus every day. My Supervisor said it was fine because nobody else on the whole floor.

I rarely saw another cubicle grunt until the week after the layoff was announced. I saw so many people that I had never seen all year. Everyone trying for face time. It took 4 weeks to get back to near zero on our floor.

What you said is just another cop-out used by management.

When an engineer is present, it’s for liability/insurance reasons, not because their job requires it, especially at a place like Exxon, where “engineering” entails reading a graph and talking about it in a Zoom meeting.

Sounds like we need to layoff more people in Houston or move them closer to the wellhead. If your work has no point maybe you should find some work that does.

Lots of engineering jobs require an on site presence per HR job role, so they can’t be 100% remote.
