Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Leaving for a competitor?

So I am starting with GM on Monday. Tomorrow I will let Ford know….should I say this is my last day or give a 2 week notice so I can get paid for 2 more weeks? I assume they will walk me out regardless when I say I’m starting??

They laid me off in 2019, part of 1,200 or so. Ageism is more alive in certain areas of GM. Escalation is the norm, expect your boss and your bosses boss to get nasty grams even before you've had a request or issue be brought to you. I spent 1/3 of my days fighting fires because somebody emailed my director before even asking me for something.

The silos between PD, Purch, Program etc seem to be reduced, however.

Word of advice to everyone leaving: don't tell them when or where you're going. I've seen some s*** managers flip out and fire their subordinates on the spot for wanting to leave for greener pastures. They won't hesitate punishing you for your perceived disloyalty and the way they do it is by depriving you of your pay if you're still a few weeks from starting your new job.

In the vast majority of cases they indeed let you go with pay but not have to work out the 2 weeks. I would promptly put it in writing with your last day two weeks out and the fact you're going to GM- send PDF email. If they immediately fire you without paying you, I would go to a government agency to file a complaint to get your $.

They won’t let u work two weeks once you hit the terminate button and you state you going to a direct competitor.

Happened to me. I was honest and told them my exact start day at GM two weeks before. I walked out immediately and they didnt pay me that two weeks. They said today is your last day. But I enjoyed that nonpaid force vacation.

What if you give them a 2 week notice and they make you work the next 2 weeks?? Not sure if there is a chance of that happening….

When I left for GM, I was let go immediately. Unless the policy has changed, welcome to GM - monday. We had our haircut 2019. You're safe for now.

Don’t become a last in first out.

Tell them you are going to Tesla. You probably get lunch with Farley.

Just enjoy 2 weeks of free paycheck and walkout the last day with few minutes notice. Give them the same medicine that they give to people when they are let go.
