Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

TSMC culture

Chiang: I firmly believe this is one of the really important reasons why TSMC succeeded. It's culture. If equipment went down, because equipment depreciation cost was so high, you really want to run your equipment 24 hours a day. In United States, if equipment went down, wait until next morning. The people come in at eight o'clock and probably go to fix it, nine o'clock. Yeah. But if at two o'clock in the morning, we just called the equipment engineer, "You come right away," he won't complain. And his wife won't complain. And that's the way it is.

That's just the way it is!
Compare to Intel..

It's easy to explain. Intel is a big customer of TSMC and so there is a lot of interaction between the 2 companies. There are ex Intel people working at TSMC and ex TSMC people working at Intel. TSMC is very strongly focused on it's customers and making them profitable. Do you think Intel is focused on customers?

Well we call it work life balance and Intel is great in it. On call rotation is there to have minimum downtime of systems. I don't know if night shifts are there or not at Intel to improve downtime

I see that kind of culture in tsmc as not healthy for individuals (for the company sure).

By the way how do you know about both cultures?
