"Courtesy Bonus" after 6 Months Short Term Disability

Co-worker returned from short term disability in July after being out since January, essentially 6 months. She is already worrying about how much bonus she will get in February 2023. To my knowledge those decisions are made in October. However, with being out 6 months, I believe she will be disqualified from receiving anything. She keeps insisting, she will get a "courtesy bonus", of a minimal amount "because everybody gets something". Clearly living in her own world. However, I don't really know the rules. Does anyone know anything about a situation like this?

At most she can expect a pro-rated bonus. (50% of prior full work year) Unless bonus pool is up or down, then maybe 5-10% up or down depending on how good/bad the year ends up.

But the way earnings are going, I doubt there will be anything left in the bonus pool after Brian and friends hog their chunk.

I wouldn't hold my breath.

It all depends on how much she's kissing up to her boss. Bonuses are usually at manager discretion. The general rule of thumb is that the top brass wants to keep as much of those bonus funds for themselves. Peanuts for you, yachts and caviar for me. And don't complain. True quote from our manager: "Just be happy you have a job because you're just a number and replaceable."

Who cares?

Mind your business. Stop caring about others squabbles and issues. Focus on yourself and your family.

I'm not saying this to insult you or anything, I'm just saying you will be physically better off focusing on you and your family and not on what others are doing on a Tuesday. Same principle on why facebook is simply poison.
