Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

No point in being in the office

Every time I step into the office, I wonder what's the point of coming here. I ask myself constantly and I have no answer to that. Totally unnecessary. I think that will be decisive in my decision to leave. My job does not require being at the office at all. Actually, I think there are very few jobs that do require?

When I was in Tech we had 1 out of state guy, 5 in office all in close proximity cubes. WFH was just getting traction, pre-pandemic. We had meetings and if WFH ir out of state you called in. Staff meetings worked great.

Technical meetings were all, always, in front of your own computer. So even if all in the office we were in our own cubicles. If WFH same experience.

Bank had software to ensure you were in office, first 2 days a week, then 3, then 4. Course that was just the 1st 40 hours in week, 8 hours a day. You were free to do near mandatory OT from home or office.

When I said I was retiring, they decided if I stayed I could WFH all the time. No office trips. Think about that a bit.

You can download the form, not sure how to get there but if you type in medical accommodations into flagscape, and click around, you’ll ultimately get to the form.

There’s no list of options, per se, but it can be anything that prevents you from working in the office. I.e. anxiety, pain, vision, migraines etc. you’ll then have your provider fill out the form, and request the accommodation of WFH. It’s actually a very streamlined process.

What are the options for accommodation reasons?

Also, the open floor plan is going to result in me quitting. What an ignorant decision. I will WFH or quit when they take our cubes. Too much research should have shown them how miserable and stupid the open seating concept is for 95% of employees.

The office is empty. The boss has been working from home but we are required to be in office for 3 out of 4 days. The rest of the floor is in maybe 1 day a week. There is talk about moving us to a free space area so the hype about working better together is just that. Hype. Hard to collaborate when your team is scattered across the floor. Also the safety of not sharing workspace during a pandemic is being thrown out the window. Some of us old farts would like to make it to retirement.

The problem is, H1 visa workers are all under 30, and have no problem showing up 5 days a week. (They usually move close to the office directly from China and India)

If you are in those fields competing against H1, you are always mindful of the danger losing your job.

We are not competing, but at minimum if we don't do the same, they have no problem stepping over us.

Another SLE came to town so they could practice their rehearsed speech. So egotistical. Too busy talking and not listening.
And again packed so tightly in a small space to listen to nothing.
But hey we got treats.

My entire floor is in the office 5days a week. It’s absolutely ridiculous, everyone worked fine at home and were happier and more productive.

The main thing is the commercial real estate that the bank holds that they hate to see empty.

Profit over people, every single time.

They skimp on raises and bonuses but now they are going hog wild again with the unnecessary travel . No travel was fine for two years and suddenly wasting millions on it again.

It depends on your line of business and even then it's inconsistent. Some groups are 5 days WFH, others 3 RTO/2 WFH while others are 2 RTO/3 WFH. Also, if you are approved for an accommodation, you don't have to come in. 1/2 of my department has accommodations.

Prospective employee here— are employees required to be in office all 5 days? Hybrid? Does it depend on team/location?

We don’t collaborate in the office.
We are on top of each other in the office.
Stop with the donuts, ice cream, pizza, cookies, candy.
Times have changed. The bank needs to get with the new changes. People are leaving because of pay and WFH not being an option.

Point is to have free donuts and ice cream.

They want us in the office to collaborate. We are way too busy to collaborate. We all have our headphones or earbuds on and working. Makes no sense.

Exactly - what is the point?

Management did not like the Record Profits when we were all WFH?

With the horrible morale, I expect 2022 Earnings will be a surprise. (and not in the good way).

Stupid egotistical policy by the dinosaurs (and we all know what happened to them!)
