Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

YTD Investment Returns - Querry

Let's do a poll on how AT&T employees/retirees are doing YTD regarding their 401 k returns. What is your YTD return and how much of your portfolio is in equites/bonds/AT&T stock?

This could be interesting and useful information

"Retired 01-14-16.

100% stocks, 0% bonds, 0% AT&T stock.

Keep everything at Vanguard and I don't want any of their advice on anything. Don't want anyone else's advice either.

Up 7.18% as of 08-13-22 and that's after withdrawing some money as usual during the year."

Vanguard added two nice stock dividends to my account after my initial post, so I'm up 7.37% as of 08-13-22 (instead of 7.18%) and that's after withdrawing some money as usual during the year.

To the poster who questioned my figures, here's something that might help you understand things a little better. I have never spent one cent of the principal in my retirement accounts. I do withdraw a portion of the dividends throughout the year and reinvest the leftover dividends. I prefer to own stock in companies that make money and pay dividends.

I haven't had a paycheck since 01-14-16 and I'm in the best financial shape of my life. Sorry if that offends you.

B.S., No Funds are up YTD January 3rd 2020 to now. Not socks and not bonds!

Vanguard Total Stock Market fund VTSAX is down -14% as of July 31st. It has come up a few points in August but still down -11% Year to date.

I dump ATT stock as soon as I can and buy Amazon, Google, IBM, and Microsoft and will buy Apple. Amazon has Amazon Web Services (AWS) which is the dominating Cloud provider worldwide. Microsoft has Azure, their Cloud platform, which is 2nd next to AWS. Google has their Google Cloud Platform which comes in at #3 behind AWS and Azure. Apple has their Macs and iPhones plus ramping up their VR and gaming. IBM just because it's IBM and has their proprietary AI and Cloud platforms.
Amazon split 20 to 1in June and Google split in 20 to 1 in July offering class A and C shares. I picked up both after I dumped T's stock and am continuing to purchase the stocks I listed above. Tesla is supposed to vote on a 3 to 1 split later in August if they haven't done so already.
Get away from T stock as it's not going anywhere any time soon and will stay in the trenches while good tech stocks like Amazon and Google will soar.

I am so glad to be gone from AT&T, the stress, and management id--ts. The stupidity level seems to increase the higher one moves in the company and at the top it's a stupid level rarely seen in corporate America.

"Down 10%. Hard to believe anyone is up, to be honest."

Most that have a solid plan and stick to it are down, I'm only down 3.5% because I use Stable value instead of total bond for my safe money (Total Bond is down a bunch so far this year). I also rebalanced when I hit my mark and that is just starting to help. Relax and "Stay the course" it's time in the market, not "time the market"!
Also, remember your buying at a discount every paycheck!

I got rid of AT&T stock when it was around $30+ Since we get AT&T stock when they match your 401K funds, I'm keeping it around for awhile longer. It's been a long time since it's been this low. But before this I made more money with other stocks and mutual funds.

  • 12.24% YTD-- 80% equities with ZERO AT&T stock. Why would anyone hold that, honestly? July first good month in a while, up 6.3%.

Down 20% at one point same as 99% of investors out there. Its a waiting game for it to bounce back which it will because it always has. Have recovered about 3% in the last couple of weeks as market actually dropped into below 30000 territory but is now on its way back to 34000 down from the 37000 52 week high.

Retired from AT&T, but working elsewhere. I don't watch my 401K since I'm not touching it for another 9-10 years at least. I have probably < 1% now in AT&T stock .

Really? You must be a ‘financial advisor’ if you want to know.
