Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

So many impediments to just doing your job

Feeling a bit frustrated today. It seems over the past decade our budget planning process has gone down the toilet. We are always over budget, always short sighted. We let things get to the point where a huge, expensive project is required to pull things back into line. At that point, we drain the operating groups budget for this new sacred cow. We accept the tactical rather than work toward the strategic. Very few people are empowered to do their jobs. We have placed so many barriers in the way of being effective that I worry about our ability to compete over the long term. The ExxonMobil of today is not the same company I joined in the early 2000. It has lost its soul and become a mindless bureaucracy. Rant over.

Having so many experienced people retire is going to hurt. Millennials have shown to be a revolving door with none sticking around for long. Where will the expertise needed come from going forward?

Process burdened at best. The amount of approvals I need to just do my base work on low cost projects is absurd.
