Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Inconsistently Meets = PIP

If you get an inconsistently meets make sure you demand the PIP - meet with your manager weekly and in writing - I repeat - in writing - have a weekly summary of all duties and your performance. Make them earn every inch of that rating as we know they are handing them out as a requirement of "calibration" to meet HR quotas.

@4bcv nails it.

That describes me too. Lot of others also I think. There is a different dynamic out there now.

We all make it to the finish line. Why sprint and arrive there sweating and out of breath when instead you can take your time, enjoy life, and be happy.

"Best way to turn a good employee into a bad employee is to put them under a clueless manager."
I am that person. Exceeds for years and now Meets. I want to be an ultra-individual contributor now. No meetings, no collaboration, no nothing, just do my basic job and the rest of the bank can go f' themselves,

These ratings have NOTHING to do with your actual job performance.

They have EVERYTHING to do with (1) how well your manager likes you, and (2) did you do anything to pi-5 your manager off in the two weeks prior to the writing of that review.

Best way to turn a good employee into a bad employee is to put them under a clueless manager.

My "Inconsistently Meets" was very inconsistent with my mid-year review and everything my spineless middle manager was telling me, which was very little, up and until my end of year review. I quit right then and there --- quit working hard for that company and that team and I started looking for a job that day. It took 8 months when I actually quit drawing pay and showing up for the s#it show that is Mortgage Credit policy. I hope all of the "managers" get the boot.

That's a bold assertion considering that you have no idea, for one, and two I've literally never been close to those quota percentages and haven't changed any ratings or had them changed for me. But yeah, nice try.

5% Consistently Exceeds
15% Exceeds
60% Meets
15% Inconsistently Meets
5% Needs Improvement

The poster who flagged these percentiles is correct. However, that’s not per manager. While definitely true across the firm, it’s normally ‘enforced’ across a division.

Most importantly- nothing below ‘meets’ should be a surprise if your manager is effectively and regularly communicating.

This is what I have been told. Calibration forces explanations for not hitting targets and in many cases forces a change.

5% Consistently Exceeds
15% Exceeds
60% Meets
15% Inconsistently Meets
5% Needs Improvement

“If you think being even more of a headache to your manager than you already are through poor performance is going to help you somehow, you couldn't be more wrong. But hey, you do you. Good luck with that.”

This cannot be emphasized enough here. So true. If we could fire at will these people more, it’d be so much easier to do business at this company.

lol, OP has no idea what they are talking about. You got the rating you deserve, and there is no quota. I review lots of people. I've had reviews with 0 employee ratings below meets. No one ever told me to add some. Ever. If you think being even more of a headache to your manager than you already are through poor performance is going to help you somehow, you couldn't be more wrong. But hey, you do you. Good luck with that.

Is calibration % for team or across firm?

Why would anyone demand a PIP? They're useless, and usually when you get put on one, it means you're out the door anyway.

If you get an "inconsistent" rating, immediately start looking for a new role. If you get that rating, the powers that be above you that decide the ratings will continue to give you that rating because it's easy to justify the next time.

I went through this a few years ago and my manager told me he went to the mat each time for me not to be "inconsistent" but was essentially told by his manager that it didn't matter what I did, I would always be rated that way.

I switched roles over a year ago. Since then, I have never been below a "meets", and 2 other people in my old group and my old manager have left, presumably because the quota rolled down to them.

@vkv+1ibojFay Incorrect on the trying real hard to get one - in a calibration across a team they are saying there should be a certain percentage for each line of business. So management is forced to have a certain number.

Resistance is futile. You are being "managed out" of the bank.
