Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How do raises / promotions work?

Firstly, I know an overwhelming majority of people here are going to tell me to get out now, which I can appreciate due to the layoff announcement. But I am fresh out of college, poor, have no family or connections. Given the oversaturation of my field and the rising economic uncertainty, I'm just trying to stay afloat and start a career.

As new FCG that started last month, I have no other place to ask this.

How do promotions and or raises work? Do FCG's salary stagnate throughout the entire rotational program? If so, what is the attrition rate like?

FCG,s do not get any real responsibility during their 6 month rotations for 3 years. That is understandable since they are gone after 6 months.
They do get a chance to rotate through different functions & hopefully they know the area they want to be by 3 years.
They start as GSR 5 and get an automatic promotion to GSR 6 after 2 years.
A non FCG graduate starting with Ford may not get the FCG hype but will get real responsibility & will be further along in terms of responsibility & development in 3 years time

Sounds like a fake post. FCGs have regular meetings and have an assigned mentor to ask those questions of

As an FCG, I'm you have ZERO to worry about with the layoff announcements. You're probably a young diversity hire who they want to "re-imagine Ford", like an imagineer at Disney, sell data & push EVs. FCGs I don't believe get any kind of promotions during rotations, and really why should they? TYPIClly you have to be in a position at a MINIMUM of 18 months before you're eligible for another promotion or move. Which probably won't sastify your little snowflake self. More than likely, you'll get a nice pat on the bu-t after rotation, moved into a position with a slight bump, then 2-3 years start going to a TS position to get LL6, then supervisor in another 2-3, then LL5 after about 4-5 years.. don't worry you'll be a director in about 15 years.

What is your degree in? What area are you working in?
I was an FCG hired in 1996 and left in 2004. Glad I left!

Full disclosure, is was let go during SRD in 2019 just one year short of a pension milestone so I am not a Ford fan! I think the FGC program can be an excellent learning experience if you get into good teams. Some teams treat FCGs like cheap unskilled labor and don’t give them decent mentoring or assignments. Other teams give them excellent assignments and learning opportunities. Try to get involved in everything your team team does and volunteer to help with projects that interest you. Don’t wait for the work to come to you.

The quit rate for FGCs can be pretty high with some leaving after three or so years. If you get an LL that thinks highly of you then promotions should follow. Try not to get on anyones bad side! Normal Ford salary increases are not significant but a promotion can give you a 7% increase. I suspect salary increases are one of the reasons FGCs leave because you get larger increases when you change companies.

Don’t let this scare you as layoffs are pretty common at large companies. Work hard, focus on you and your career and grab every opportunity that comes your way.

If you are a FCG, you should already know as the program is clearly set out for you. What you signed up for is what you get until you rotate off. So right now, remember all the "you are the future of Ford" kool-aid they are dishing out is pure BS. One you are off the program most then are referred to as old Ford and those that must be eliminated. You should leave asap. If Ford is the only company that will hire you, I feel sorry for you. Advice, start your MBA now, or whatever degree you can get them to pay for. Also, if you are able find another remote job you can do on the side during the day to pull in extra money and to get some decent experience. Leave Ford as soon as you can.
