Thread regarding Ford layoffs

New Normal

I was told by my LL6's in my quarterly check-in this past week that cuts are going to be the norm for the next 2 years. Hard to press the "work tirelessly" message with that kind of message. Personally I'm tired of working so hard just to create conditions that allow me to work hard ... or in other words, be productive. People shouldn't have to work so hard just trying to work hard. It sounds confusing, but I'm sure someone reading this knows exactly what I mean. Anyway, I think that many will almost feel a sense of relief if they get let go.

Have been through many grinders at Ford, the continuous months long dark ominous cloud of “ you may get cut . Or not, who can say? We’re not tellin”
This happened every few years. I don’t see how this calculated vagueness was anything but intentional psychological manipulation to divide ranks. I still gave my best efforts to the blue oval. The 2019/2020 SRD and saturated negative environment finally pushed me to tap out when an offer was made late 2020. Best decision ever. Good luck men and women who are trying to work under the current regime and tactics.

@OP. Nothing new there. We were told during the SRD in 2019 this process would take few years. Probably due to Covid-19, all these layoffs were delayed.

Yes, it is getting harder to create the conditions to actually be able to do work. FoMoCo is pushing very hard to convert all those self started independent workers in little cogs, so management can replace them easily, preferably by Indian, Mexican and Brazilian cogs.

Your are just a number to HR with salary...
If you an employee just woek on your image not your work that is what they see. That is all they see.
If they product is good the CEO will make more not you....
You will be let go in a cut cost so the top boys can make little more.
So work for yourself and your resume..
Trust I worked for Ford and learend from the best ;).

Pretty basic observation. I am an engineer. I worked hard to get thru school. I used logic and over analyze things. I am not understood by others. I am an engineer and I know things!

All these MBA-Marketing-Spin folks are the beer bonging business school types who could not hack accounting.

An engineer can be a businessperson but a businessperson can’t be an engineer. Again, I am an engineer and I know things.

There will always be a divide between management and engineering. Ford management never wanted to hear no and the engineers trying to climb the company ladder never would say no.

I sure hope all of this plays out.

It is very appalling.

Why don't Ford, just shut themselves down altogether?

If this is the new norm they won't have to cut anyone.. They'll be running to the doors. Already are.

Anyone who works more than 36 hours is a FOOL. Recall that 4 hours a week are for personal development

And cuts aren't necessarily focused on non-producers, so working hard and smart, doesn't necessarily make your position safe.

New normal is for Ford to grind their US employees into the ground until such time they can move their job to MX, Brazil, China.
