Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Where's the real fat?

AT&T has too many employees, nobody can argue with that. I will argue that the wrong people keep getting cut in an effort to reduce that number. We could easily get rid of two-thirds of middle management without anybody noticing. So why is it that we never end up cutting the real fat?

The real fat on spending is shown most in that executive level with fancy titles and responsibilities and fat bonuses. When was the last strategic directiive made by this cast of clowns that was seen as a success. Arnoldi, Summers, Lu, Chewing and the list goes on. No benefits can be listed for any of them!!! Get rid of them…at least 2 levels of management can be fired and it would still be business as usual!!!

“Irrational Disdain” for PPT. Now that’s funny (and true). Always makes me laugh when union people bring it up. MS Office, especially PPT, is used by professionals at virtually all companies around the globe. It’s a powerful tool for showcasing your work and presenting material to peers and leaders. I guess my question to the ignorant union person is how would YOU like us to do it? FYI, the answer cannot be: Kick your feet up on the table, grab your sp-t cup and launch into a re----k tirade about “shitt you don’t like” or “managers suck” or “I don’t get paid to do that”. Comical, yes, unprofessional and childish at best.

I love that you can always count on the guy with the irrational disdain for PowerPoints to speak up...

Yeah, who could fail to see the amazing value in all those scorecards, dashboards and monthly reports that flood my inbox at the beginning of every month. The best part is that the ones that arrive later basically consist of the same sh-t that was sent out earlier in the month, just repackaged in some other colorful, festive way. Too bad we can't just cancel that nut who fails to show the proper respect.

There is real far all around-
mgmt and union. There are many hardworking mgmt employees, just like there are many hardworking union employees. The issue is the company has no real way of determining who works and who doesn’t. It’s a friends business- The more you have the more secure your employment is.

But then who will create tons of useless work so they can prepare PowerPoints so that they look like they know something to their higher ups?

AT&T management should be reduced. They don't listen to their people who directly deal with customer issues. Their techs, engineers, and customer support groups provide good feedback that is not addressed by management to improve the company. This is wrong.

Fat is based on revenue. Wireline is not contributing and will need to be cut.
