Some say it's worth it, and some say it's a short cut to being pushed out of the company with almost no chance of surviving it.

Unless your Canadian your cooked. Don't waste a minute doing anything but these 2 things.
1 Find a new employer It's much easier when you are employed
2 Collect evidence for your potential lawsuit
It's not worth it. Collect enough evidence on your personal device and when HR calls, use it against them.
answering the question: NO
As someone else stated, the PIP is for your boss to cover him/her self. They want you gone but HR asked them to provide reason(s). The PIP is to provide them with that
Refresh your resume and start actively looking.
If you need to ask the question then you should be on a pip. If you’re on a pip you’re fu----g toast. Slack off, wack off, steal everything you can. The co wants you out. I don’t care about smoke break. Someone wins the lottery too but if you waste a buck on it you’re a fool. Don’t be a fool for IBM biggest POS on this stupid planet. Update your resume, find a new love. Best wishes.
Seen the worst worker ever get through a PIP.
We nicknamed them smoke break because that's all they did.
Everyone was in shock when we learned they survived the PIP.
So if they could survive a PIP, anyone can IMO.
It is a total waste of time. If you are on a PIP that means IBM wants you out of the company. No amount of effort will change that. Spend your remaining time at IBM to look for a job outside the company.
If you don’t try, then you sure won’t make it past it.
