Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Not a chance they offer voluntary buyouts

The whole point of layoffs is to get rid of specific people (often older folks who make more money). They know a lot of people want to leave and voluntary buyouts would end up in a whole bunch of people they want to keep walking away. They will not risk that. Why leave it to chance when they can simply choose who they want out?

@eir There was a voluntary program last year and for many if not most of all the previous 30 years that I’ve been here.

Im leaving either way -and you’re welcome.

“The typical cadence is voluntary followed by involuntary.” = True that. We are seeing a new MO by the company regarding that.

Shame on the company for what they have become and what they are doing to decent employees.
My hope is they will do the right thing and spare a few jobs with a voluntary program in the limited time remaining.

Then they can do a year end termination if needed to hit their numbers just as they have done in prior years, but at least a few jobs would’ve been spared for those who wish or need to remain.

God bless.

I think what people are missing is that they did a voluntary last year. I agree that there is time for a voluntary, but not time for both a voluntary and an involuntary. The typical cadence is voluntary followed by involuntary.

No one entering the workforce these days is going to stay at any company for any length of time.

If you building a "career" at Ford! know when you over 50. They want you to go! so get ready!
Study something on the side, and make sure your kids are not engineers. The country doesn't need us they have replaced us with H1B.

Do a search on Life@Ford for KA-15103. It is the 2020 VIP program and it looks like it was kicked off on Sep1 2020

The A$$ backwards Ford plan seems to be working. Create confusion and delay and then reorganize to something shiny and new. Getting the job done is secondary. Ford will $crew over the last group of loyal employees it will ever have. If this company is still around in 20 yrs the workforce will be a mix match of job jumpers and newbies. The processes that we have developed over the years to design and build world class vehicles will be meaningless... (we don't follow them now)

There is still time and in fact such programs have been offered even later in the year in some of the years past.
Happening in time to take advantage of current interest rates?
That window is indeed closing and it would be unconscionable for the company to allow that opportunity to slip away from people.

Those who are adamant that there will be no voluntary program need to consider optics, PR, legalities, and precedent.

The company is also flush with cash at this time and their objectives of replacing current NA salaried with foreign cheaper labor drives everything. Few bucks hush/walking money well spent.

All we can do is wait.
