Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

XOM doesn't pay me enough

Not for the amount of work I'm expected to do in return. Remember when we were the top paying O&G company with the best benefits? I had no issues bending over backwards to get as much as humanly possible done. Now that my pay is below the industry standard and my benefits have been gutted, I have no intention of providing the same amount of effort. They can fire me, I don't care. I'll continue to give as much as I get.

“XOM doesn't pay me enough”

No other company or industry will pay you so much to do so little. Many of you find this out the hard way when you leave the fossil fuels industry.

If you want to draw a decent paycheck and not do much, stay right where you are.

I figured I had golden handcuffs here and would ignore recruiters even when I was unhappy because I was sure they couldn’t come close to my salary and benefits. I finally took a look and was SHOCKED how much more I could be making with comparable benefits.

Putting in my 2 weeks on Monday.

Everyone should understand the company has to watch its wallet closely.
Don't want to have to borrow money for dividends - ever again!

I agree that Exxon doesn't pay enough. I am with Exxon for two years now after college and expected to show up at the office and do the work of two people for $140K/year and no RSUs. I decided I will do as little as possible, take lots of time off, and look for another job that pays better. I don't need this Exxon s-ho-e!

@OP, pleeeeease stop bending over backwards...it's the optimal position for management to $crew you (really good).

Even more importantly, it sets the future expectations for management that the rest of us will also be assuming that position!

@OP

If you’re a white-collar worker at any large operating company, all you’re really doing is sitting in virtual meetings and sending emails. Once in a while, you cut & paste some pictures into a PPT.

You’re paid more than enough for what you actually do. Get over yourself.

If you can’t get up and walk out right now, you’re getting what you’re worth.

When I look back at the small village I grew up in, I realize that my small paycheck is likely the largest in the village including the doctor and the dentist.

Be grateful or be gone.
