Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Quiet Quitting

Not taking your job too seriously has a new name: Quiet Quitting.
The phrase is generating millions of views on TikTok as some young professionals reject the idea of going above and beyond in their careers, labeling their lesser enthusiasm a form of “quitting.” It isn’t about getting off the company payroll, these employees say. In fact, the idea is to stay on it—but focus your time on the things you do outside of the office. Work From Home.

This is happening at all corporate America. Company is haz been hiring cheaper labor to get the job done. Now they are going to clean house. Don't complain if you lose your job. You have been a quiet quitter for many years.

Great tread. I’m putting down my pencil and doing the minimum required. Others should do the same. Why bust your axx for JF to make more Millions $$$ on your sweat.

Never be loyal to your employer especially one like Ford.Use the paycheck to fund yourself and move on to better things that you can enjoy.

Left Ford in late 50s and have been trying out not working. Not really retirement but not 'working for the man' either.
People constantly ask why did I leave money on the table? Why aren't you working now, consulting, etc?
I reply. Because you can always make more money but you cannot make MORE TIME.

It's like the stock market, see ? You want to get as much ROI as possible, right ? So - If I can do 'abc' and get paid 'xyz' then why shouldn't I ? ISn't that what becoming an LLx is all about ? Have a good team in place so you can go 'Live more Life' ! :)

A wise person once told me, "On their death bed, nobody ever says "I should have spent more time at work." - It's usually more of a regret that they did not 'Live more Life', etc.
"We were not rich, but we were happy." - Me (about growing up just above the poverty line)

Quiet quitting - so that's what half of my department was doing for decades. I can't blame them I guess 70% of management will accept the bare minimum. If a minority, there some career guidance but little correction and hard training for fear of legal retaliation. If not a minority they just didn't care about your advancement either. The 30% of management with real leadership skills at Ford I do admire and respect. Y'all know who you are.

I guess it is sad on one hand to see the erosion of a strong work ethic, but on the other you see how these corporations (Ford included) have devolved and treat their employees like trash, to be discarded as soon as it's convenient. To some extent I understand this concept, because why should I devote countless hours to this enterprise if my work isn't appreciated, and I gain nothing by doing it other than a possible tap on the shoulder to go when we're all inevitably outsourced.

I'm just not the type of person who can coast, but I'm also not ki----g myself for a job. I do work hard, but I also try to work efficient and stay selective on extra work that could be taken on. Most of you have a life and family outside of work and all of us have a limited expiration date on this life.

It's actually quite sad. People used to take pride in working hard to create a comfortable life and provide for their families.

You don’t need to work hard to pay off your house and save money in the bank or fund investments; just live below your means. I have rejected promotion opportunities for years because I don’t need the extra money or stress. If not for general US healthcare costs (and yes I am very healthy) I would have quit long ago. But quiet quitting is what I have been doing for over 10 years at ford.

Quiet Quitting is the new name for an old human behavior: lack of ambition. I have known too many people like that. They just do barely enough to keep the job, since they need the monies to fund their hobbies and lives.

In a way, they are happier than me. They have more time for pursuing their passion (traveling, camping, gaming), or having more relaxed lives because of not taking risks. I have learned that there is a kind of wisdom on their actions, but it is not for everyone.

I believe in a balanced life, where not all is work, nor all fun. However, I also believe there are moments when we need to work harder, and moments when we can enjoy the benefits earned during that hard work.

It is also harder to work as we aged, and we can learn faster when we are young. Therefore, I see it as climbing a hill: we advance faster at the base, but as the slope gets steeper, our pace slow down. That doesn't mean we should surrender or stop moving. If we don't start young, if we don't work hard enough, we'll never reach the peak, which makes us vulnerable as we age to the landslides in our society.

Some of my friends had better lives than me thanks to their lack of ambition: stress free, fulfilling their desires, staying single for longer, less responsibilities, etc. However, as we age, the roles are starting to reverse. My hard work is paying off (house paid off, money in the bank, good salary), while some of those friends are dealing now with not having enough money, or health to fund their lifestyles. I know, they already had their fun, and some of us didn't make it this far. Still, each of us chose their own path, and that's how life goes.

At the beginning, I thought Quiet Quitting was just like "Lying flat"(yes, the quitting word threw me off). However, China's lying flat is the answer to the dehumanizing rat race. It is another movement against the establishment, but this one is closer to the Dude than to Quiet Quitting.

That’s strategy sounds about right while it lasts but North American workforce are you awake yet? Corporations do not want you or your children working for them, they want you replace with cheap foreign labor whilst they Seidel up to a government that also wants you replaced.
