Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Purpose of PIP

In my case, I think that I was put on PIP only because of the manager's animosity towards me. It is very clear to everyone that PIP is not primarily intended for an employee to improve, as well as why the company decides to put an employee on PIP. But isn't the destruction of morale caused by PIP more damaging than beneficial to the interests of this company?

So a “short stint in fossil fuels” allowed you to figure it all out? Another pompous, arrogant imbe_cile who believes he’s a genius.

@2jhr

Most of you do very, very little in comparison to what you earn.

In addition, most of you have a rather inflated opinion of yourselves, especially your skills and accomplishments. Having done a short stint in fossil fuels, I know how little you actually do, and exactly how to parse your résumés. You’re not fooling anyone, and you’re not worth anything close to what you’re asking for.

My advice: if you’re a white-collar employee with 10+ years in fossil fuels, you should stay where you are.

This program was introduced during the beginning of the pandemic, quite clear what it’s intent was. Subsequently, the layoff came and those that pass were laid off too. I felt sorry for those that took the PIL and did not have the chance to be compensated fairly for the number of years that had been with EM.

The purpose of the PIP is to nudge employees who are overpaid and unproductive?????!!!!

Nope.

I have seen productive and fairly paid colleagues placed on PIP because.

PIP is used for people that speak their mind and disagree with the nonsense.

PIP is used as a punishment tool to deter disagreement and independent thinking.

@OP The purpose of the PIP is to nudge employees who are (generally) overpaid and unproductive, and who should have already moved on out the door. Retaining such people on staff prevents growth and drives up labor costs.

Most of you aren’t very good at what you do, don’t do very much, have trouble with new technology, and aren’t willing/able to accommodate social change. Plenty of exceptions, but that’s the rule.

Thank you for your contributions. Move on and enjoy your retirement life.

I have seen an absolutely great employee ranked NSI after getting transferred into a long term tight knit group whose Supervisor obviously felt threatened by him.

The good new is that after taking the PIL, he landed a great job and has been poaching numerous EM young engineers to work at his new company. He has caused at least 20 regrettable resignations!

Supervisors are using the NSI to exit their enemies, not just low performers.

You weren’t put on the PIP. You chose the PIP over the PIL when deemed NSI.

Smart money takes the PIL and walks.

By the time you're screwed up badly enough, for long enough, to be put on a PIP, you're generally operating at a level that would have had you gone from a small company ages ago.

None of us really mean a g0d d@Mn thing to the Company right now. Whoever is in charge when they hit their overhead numbers will pick up the pieces and still get oil and gas into the pipelines and tankers. None of us are special. It's just a job and a paycheck at this point. Ain't bad

The continued PIP and destruction of morale are purposely designed to reduce headcount and facilitate site consolidation, while minimizing the amount of severance and relocation packages. The goal, of course is to benefit the corporation and based on what I see in the past few years, the plan has been going very well………..
