Thread regarding Ford layoffs

This is how it happens when the so-called “white collar” employees don’t unionize?

Isn’t it the time?

My brother called and wanted to buy an escape under the friends and family program as i used to work for ford. The dealership told him they are not honoring this program at this time. I told my brother who has bought 3 fords in 6 years to stear away from ford as they have way toooo many quality issues.

IE: 2017 ecoboost engine failure at less than 20K. There are so many others but i experienced that one personally.

Not all unions are the same. In Germany work councils, unions, and laws have protected jobs, salaries, and benefits. We are grateful for them.

It is amusing that in the USA retirees are complaining about slashed health care benefits but at the same time would not consider unions because of perceived abuses.

To the previous poster, you heard wrong. Model e does not have a unique salary range. Some employees, however, have been designated as High Tech High Demand (HTHD). This comes with a higher salary grade range, but not an actual raise. It seems to be a way to pay new recruits with critical skills more so we can compete with the start-ups. For the people already here, I guess the merit will be skewed slightly higher since they will be lower in their new salary range.

I heard that all assigned to model e get 15-20% base pay increase due to the new 2 tier salary grades as they all have the "talent" however will not be eligible for profit sharing since the programs they work on do not deliver positive EBIT

@OP. If the white collars were unionized, the company would had disappeared long time ago. What we see now in the Friends and Family plan, all the deadwood being promoted, would have happened faster in a union. Ford managers are fighting among themselves, but the thugs in the union support each other.

Losing my job is not the end of the world for me. I'll find another one. Dealing with deadwood enablers, A.K.A union, I cannot stand it. Under a union, the job is not getting done, there is no order, no respect, and the rules, most of them made up to protect some positions, are silly borderline with stupid. There are a lot of positions created for the union's friends and family members, because at the end of the day, the union can blackmail, threat and squeeze the business.

If you haven't noticed already by my description above, I know unions.

I used to have meetings with union IT people and it was a disaster. They had 2 official 10 minute coffee breaks (everyday) written in their contract and they always turned into 45. If you were in a meeting at 10 am, too bad.... it wouldnt start until the coffee break was over and by then it was almost time for lunch. If systems went down at 2:00 am and they didnt answer their pagers, nothing happened to them. Jobs that were hung just had to wait until morning. Non IT people complain about how long maintenance and development take. Well, you should have seen the union shop. Not much work got done, but the employees were very happy.
