Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO

Is there anything that could happen at this point that would make the leadership reverse course on RTO? Too many people are unhappy about this but too few are willing to do anything to change it. Outside of everybody calling in sick for days, which I know will not happen, is there anything that could make them see how unhappy most of the employees are over this and how it is negatively affecting the company?

I would like to request that all the offshored persons please stop working remotely and return to the US. There now you see the double standard.. So whats the real reason? Is it that the businesses that support all that office work and maintenance of same would no longer be needed? And maybe those businesses are also owned by the deciders?

Those hours spent in traffic commuting to work now are no longer dedicated to me sitting in front of the home office desk and doing work prior to the official opening of business. Same goes for closing time. The computer stays at work now. No more weekends in front of the home office desk now either. All in a quest to get demand artificially re-loaded for realestate and building services, restaurant lunches, burning carbon fuel, and lining the pockets of the people who own those services that were put in place to support said created demand and profit from it. Not sustainable in this new operating paradigm. Force the old model on people and it is about to fail miserably.

Amazing how people only read the COVID part of not wanting to return to the office and not the other reasons which are legitimate. I guess you know how lazy some workers are and can’t argue with the fact that a lot of us office workers don’t work with local people anymore. Doesn’t matter where I sit the team I work with is 800 miles away. Why should I sit in an office when I do more work at home? Plenty of time on break to do the laundry, which is when I do it. This place won’t break my work ethic. I had a good one before I started here and will have it when I’m gone. I have a good work ethic for myself, I’m not a fan of our employer either but I do my job right because I need my job and I’m paid to do my job. I will RTO, but that doesn’t mean I see the sense in it.

The same mean spirited person complaining about wfh is the same person pretending to be a wfh employee. This person stopped at nothing convincing anyone who reads this page that wfh emplooyees only goof off. Every day pretending saying things like he was not working. Doing household chores etc. All along i knew he or she was a fake. Everyone knows production has increased. This persons jealousy and child like behavior is unreal. And cant stand to see anyone happy

Maybe AT&T employees needs to start a petition like Apple is doing for RTW.

Those afraid of RTO are worried they can’t get their supply of lotion and Kleenex in the office without being seen.

It's not hate for those who WFH.
It's the non stop whining.
Half the threads here are whiners complaining about having to actually go to work.
No one believes you work all day. You do laundry, cut the lawn, clean.
Not saying I wouldn't, but save the BS...and quit the incessant complaining.

I have been in the office the whole time, pandemic or not. What I don't understand is: why all the hate for those who chose to work from home?

How are we who choose to work from the office threatened by WFH? What explains the hate? I'm appalled at what a bunch junk yard dogs work for this company. Is that all you got left, a distorted sense of toughness?

scc+1 thanks for answering my questions. My building is closing and my team is dispersed across 4 states, so based on your comments, my TW request should be approved.

" TW teleworkers don’t have to RTO but FO flex office workers do?"

Yes- because teleworkers are remote fulltime. FO = flex office which means you will need to be in the office some of the time, latest trend seems to be 1-3 days a week depending on your org and/ or direct management's requirements.

"Who decided this person is TW and that one is FO?"

Their manager. Full time TW status was near impossible a couple years ago with like a 5th level approval required, no AM or Director was sending that request up the line. As of late more folks in our org have been approved, and it only goes to Director level now. These approvals are mostly for folks that have been impacted by office spaces that have closed, and most are on teams that are regional or national anyway (team is geographically spread out with no common office location). Teams have not historically been co-located and are used to operating remotely.

"And will TW be targeted like the folks that lived too far away from a collaboration hub some years back?"

Collaboration zone nonsense is over. CRE is shrinking and closing office spaces at record pace. TW would not be "targeted" in a surplus event simply because of the TW status. If you're a pain in your Boss's a$$, an under performer, AND a TW, then you'll have a problem.

" I want to ask my boss to change me to TW but I’m afraid that puts a target on my back."

There is no harm in asking. But it won't be approved without a valid reason (office closure, etc). Just asking because you'd prefer to work from home full time won't fly.

I think the person drinking all the “WHINE” is the weakest link! Hoping someone loses their job to outsourcing or otherwise cus you chose an outside home visiting job and can’t do your job from home is a disgrace! If you’re so happy commuting why worry about anyone else? Be careful what you’re wishing on others, it has a way of coming back to YOU! And not
That I owe any explanations about what I do with my time, I AM in fear of catching the deadly disease you seem to feel u have immunity to! U clearly don’t know my health history or work ethic so I’ll leave your fancy name calling to you and u can kindly shut up lol!

I’m more productive at home. Most of us come in, swipe the badge and leave around lunch to finish at home. There’s really no purpose to RTO unless your team is co located with you. If not, what’s the point? However, they pay me and say go to the office 2-3 days per week, sure boss. Badge in, sit in at an empty table with my laptop, head home after lunch.

If RTO doesn’t work for you and you’re health, you can move on to better pastures that will accommodate your special requirements. T has no obligation to support your fear.

“ Having gotten very sick with the ‘voodoo’ disease as some call it, I don’t want to get it again from you folks that also think the moon landing never happened. I don’t think I’d survive it again as I’m still suffering very long term effects- over 18 months. How am I going to work and be productive if I get it again? That makes no sense. As previously stated those who work at the office are working at home and those who don’t aren’t. We aren’t wasting time in the break room or water cooler or smoke breaks or ridiculous daily huddles. We have only bad supervisors to thank for allowing that to continue. I live in a highly COVID infected zone, which is also a high id--t zone. I’ve wanted to social distance from most of my lazy coworkers before I knew what social distancing was. I report to and work with people 800 miles away and have for years. All work and training has been remote and worked out fine. I suspect that’s the case for a lot of us. No reason to be in an office with a toxic environment literally and figuratively. It’s easier for me to work, more productive and less stressful if I don’t have to lay eyes on the people who don’t work. That’s a huge reason I don’t see the need to go back. I don’t have much of a work reason to collaborate as they say. (Stupid buzz words) We’ve managed quite nicely on Q and now Teams. My blood pressure hasn’t been this good as it was before the work we got 8-9 years ago and I had to be put on two meds. I’d love to retire but need 4 more years if I can get them.

I could have chosen to go for a higher paying outside job but didn’t want to do one of those jobs. Those if you who did, good for you, I’m happy you’re making good money, but don’t blame the office workers for your choice. We all have our own reasons for the job we went for. No one could have foreseen a pandemic.”

I haven’t missed a day in 2 1/2 years of going into stranger’s homes to provide the telecommunications services that support your paycheck. You’re too weak to be a T employee. Grow up and return to work or have the spine to walk away with your mouth closed. Whine, whine, whine. Can I get you some cheese?

No downside for the company or the customers if everyone is required to go to work at their reporting location (like a regular job).

Those who work, will work no matter where they are, those that don't work will not be productive no matter where they are. Those that don't understand the job will still not know their job no matter where they work.

The only difference will be those that are 'all collaboration - no production' will have something to do. collaboration = "what parties are coming up this weekend?", "hey, where are we going for lunch?", "hey, where is happy hour tonight?"

No difference in production or customer service (customer service - what is that??)

The first thing to do is to get out of bed and go do your job. I think people have milked the pandemic thing for far too long now. If it’s too much for you to peel yourself off the couch then quit and find something else.
