Thread regarding Ford layoffs

There was a trick at GM about going on medical before a forced lay-off. There is a some rule that they can't lay you off until you come back. If enough time elapses, you are okay until the next cycle. One guy was off on medical for 6 months this way.

Same here. My LL3, who has never once spoken to me, scheduled the call tonight. You'd think they'd give us a night's sleep before sending us out to pasture, but we don't even get that fuсking courtesy.

Hoping for the best. I know if I didn't go last year that I would be let go this year.

I was cut from this functionless company called FORD in 2008.
It was the best thing ever.
Learned nothing there.
Very bad management.
Get a job were you learn.
If you had training you would of been valuable.
let them have fun with recalls.

Good luck everyone. As the maker will be flooded by ford engineers, suppliers will be ready to pick up the best ones. Bad luck slackers your time is up.

I was an LL6 at Visteon when we closed a plant in 2008 and had to let all my Product Engineers go
Just as the economy crashed. I wish an LL4/3 did it. I knew these great Engineers for a long time before Visteon and there where no “slackers”. To say it mildly; I sobbed a few times during the notifications which “yes” was a speech on a piece of paper I had to present and read and “say no more”

Then when it was over…..

I got the boot as well

Many think this is not hard on the management; but I was sick for weeks leading up to it knowing what was coming and what I “had to do” along with my own personal worries as well.

Lol that could be anything. Terminations rarely inside a day's notice. It also would not be your direct manager.

Good luck to all of you this week. Plan accordingly. I am constantly asking myself 'what if's' in regards to losing my job. Is my resume updated? Can I survive for 6 months on my savings? What is the local job market like? Do I have relocate (yet again)? Can I retire?

Reading the recent posts brought back a story from my career back in '99. My first IT gig was as a contractor at a company whose HQ is (was?) in Troy, MI. The name rhymes with 'In He-l' and we literally were. I was assigned to the tail-end of a project in Delaware in '98 with plenty of work still needing to be done. I was onsite for about a year before getting laid off. While on paid bench (they had it at the time) waiting for a new opportunity, I received a call from a friend inside the company letting me know they are going through their ranks with a flamethrower (his word) and that no one was safe. I got my resume prepped and posted. Shortly after, I get a call from (oddly) Texas. Some representative from the company (HR?) got the task of laying people off. I still remember the conversation like yesterday. I knew what it was for when he introduced himself on the phone.

It started, 'You're a valuable member of the company but we can no longer afford to pay you.' I had to bite my tongue. Having advance warning, I had already been looking for a new job and the guy asked me If I was. I said yes. He then asked me if I was looking for myself or the company. I again replied, for myself. He then p!$$ed me off by going on a spiel that if I (acted as a company recruiter) and found a site where the company could become the main contractor I would be placed there and get a whopping $5k bonus. I had to bite my tongue again. I of course lied and said I would look for these type of opportunities. When I left, I never looked back.

I just told my LL3 to "say what you gotta say" which kind of choked him up and shut him up. I barely knew the guy, I think he was trying to make it a positive experience as I had more than 20 years

That's how I got "laid off" back in April. Meeting notice with my Manager the day before. Called in at the appointed time.
You could tell by the tone of his voice what was about to happen.

'Sorry to have to tell you this, but. . .'

In my case it just meant retiring a few years earlier, with a few dollars less.
Odd that they would pick the middle of a pay period. The 29th would better fit the pattern.

I just got a similar meeting. I'm not ready for this. I'm so close to hitting pension requirements, I probably won't be able to find another job. How will I support my wife and kids? I just can't.....

A lot of people who received those appointments in April got moved to other groups. Something to keep in mind before you assume the worst.

Who is your manager the guy who drives F-150 or Mach E you met at the gas station.

Just decline the meeting and say it conflicts with a meeting about supporting recall resolutions for EVs.

There’s life after Ford. It’s a terrible process and Although I was lucky to escape the last three mass layoffs, watching colleagues walked out the door was a sickening feeling.

I have since left the Company years later, but just know there’s plenty of new challenges ahead. Wish you all the best!
