Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Want to survive at T?

You need to be able to make your boss look good without expecting to get any credit for what you do and kiss both your boss' and your boss' boss' behind. You might lose your dignity while doing it but you will be safe from any coming layoffs. It's on you to decide what's more important to you.

Another attempt to make self look competent by disparaging manager. So really, why is it that he and so many have passed you?

AVPs and Chief of Staffs are glorified admins who waste other people's time because ATT execs are so far removed from the trenches of the business. Hey I started off as a Tower Climber but now I am in Warner Media and you should drop Mad Magazine. Hey I monitor Long Distance and T1's but now I want you to stop what you are doing HBO and be more like Netflix and sp-t out cheap garbage content.

AVP and above add little value to the bottom line. You have people with the title of engineer that can’t do a home self install!!

My job is to make as much $$$ as I can in the shortest amount of time.
I've had at least 16 bosses in 34 years. 1st lines. 10 deuces.
They come and go.
I won't kiss bu-t. Men don't do that.
I get in my truck, go to work, and if I never talk to the boss it makes both of us happy.
I leave him alone. He leaves me alone.
On time, every day, ready to work. Polite to customers.
Skilled.
If you need to lose your self respect to stay employed you are......

" ...my job responsibility is to make sure nothing gets escalated to him"

This right here ^^^^^. 100%, all day every day. As an AM myself at one point, I can enthusiastically confirm. Put yourself in their shoes. Who are you going to get rid of when you have to come up with one UID? It will always be the person that doesn't answer their phone or respond to emails, missing deadlines, etc, all of which will eventually lead to escalation and headaches for ME.

The only time an AM gets in a pinch is when they are lazy and give everyone on their team the same ratings/ review on their A and D's. You must document the poor performance, those issues that were escalated to you when someone wasn't doing their job. So come surplus time you can easily justify your decision.

(Note: I share this as a manager of non- bargained for folks, it's different when dealing with bargained for personnel).

Very true statement. I once had a boss tel me my job responsibility is to make sure nothing gets escalated to him. If I do that, then I’ll be successful.
Upper mgmt doesn’t want problems, they want succes to show their value.
