Thread regarding Ford layoffs

That leaves 5,000

If 3,000 people will be laid off in the next three days, what about the remaining 5,000? I was hoping the leadership would at least have the decency to do this all at once since they left us in limbo to stress and worry for over a month. Now you're telling me that we'll be in the same exact position after this week is done? If that's true, I hope I'm laid off today.

My count with all of the previous cuts is 6000-7000 so far. If you count the people that left and weren't backfilled they are probably over 8000.

Now they have a taste for it. I think this is the new norm. If you stay you're a mo--n. Found out a guy that gave 38 years was walked out yesterday. What an indignant way to end a storied career. "Hey, did they have a party for you when you retired?" "No. They said I had 14 days to return my cr-p or I'd forfeit money!"

Ah yes. The new Ford.......

They are moving the jobs overseas! They are cutting US workers but the jobs will reappear somewhere else. We are in a new era where white collar workers are feeling the brunt of the pain. There was a time when most of the pain was felt by the hourly. Well, they basically ran out of hourly workers to abuse in the US so now white collar will get it. SE Michigan is becoming like Silicon Valley, not a good thing because people change jobs out there every 3 years. You all have many choices and all of them are worse than the way things use to be.

I do believe these cuts will be the last for this year. As they will be spending the rest of the time re-orging for the balance of the year. I am already being told my responsibilities are going to change in the coming weeks. But the cuts aren't done they have been doing cuts every year (with the exception of 2020) since 2019. I expect this to continue and start to become more of a new norm year after year. Cut 1000-3000 jobs per year, shuffles everyone around see where you are left, go oops we cut too many in this area hire a couple more. Rinse and repeat.

@ria+1ilJ5hKV There are healthy sized cuts planned for 1st quarter 2023. The second round of 2022 cut originally targeted for October have been moved to 2023 as there have been project delays in moving some work out of MI
Forked tongues comes to mind when reading the email

@uxs+1ilJ5hKV I don't know about cry-baby hacks, but yes the amount of misery and negativity on this board is downright toxic.

I'm grateful to everyone on here for giving us the low-down on all of the 15min meetings that popped up on managers' calendars. That appears to have been solid info based on the email that came out.

But beyond that, in very short order, I'm going to close this page and not look at this board again for a long time because we just got the answers we've been looking for from the horse's mouth. If you want to stew in this negative, paranoid echo chamber indefinitely, go for it I guess, but I would not recommend it for your own health and sanity.

Do I think that Ford is completely done with cuts after this week forever and ever? No, that would be foolish. Do I think that they very clearly said that the cuts happening this week are the last ones for the foreseeable future? Yeah. And again if your trust in management is so low that you can't take the email where they very clearly communicated what's happening at face value, start looking for another job on your own, because you have way too little trust in this place left to ever be comfortable here.

@ria+1ilJ5hKV You are right, the message was clear on the number of cuts and the timeframe. However, since our management is not being forthright on what the scope of the re-org and job cuts are in total, that leaves people left wondering. The press leak with the 8K number was never addressed by Ford management. And no, the "you'll here it from us first" response doesn't cut it. IMO, the distrust people have with the current management and questing the email this morning is highly warranted. Words are one thing. Actions are another. I want to hear what the plan is, including full scope and what areas are going to be impacted. Since that apparently isn't going to happen, people are going to be working in fear until they signal an all clear. It's a pretty brutal way to treat your workforce. And having been at Ford for many years, I find this extremely sad.

Wake up people. If you think the 3000 is ALL they are doing you are fools. Ford has been cutting back for years now with no end in sight. If you think you are safe after this week I have a bridge to sell ya.

Honestly based on the email, I think that assuming there will be even more cuts any time soon after this week shows a pretty unhealthy level of mistrust and paranoia. And I get why you would be, but seriously just take a step back for a minute and read the email...

"we are informing some Ford teammates this week in the US, Canada, and at FBS in India, that their positions are being eliminated. Overall, we are reducing our salaried workforce by about 2,000, as well as reducing agency personnel by about 1,000."

I don't think the email could have been any clearer than that. It gives the timeframe of this week, and the number involved. There is every possibility that the leaks to the media a few weeks ago just didn't have the number right.

Now I mean if you think those at the top are just flat out lying to us with that email, be my guest I suppose. But I would also say that if you have that little faith or trust in the company at this point, you should probably just find a new job on your own accord, because you're never going to be happy working at a place where you distrust management that much.

As far me, I'm going to take the email at face value because it would be absolutely AWFUL conduct for them to send out that email very bluntly spelling out that everything is happening this week, then turn around in a few more weeks/months and say "actually nevermind what we said a few weeks ago."

If reports on this site along with internal chatter are to be believed they have been thinning the herd since April. Who knows what the actual total is to date. Cuts will be ongoing IMO. Survive this round and you get a stay of execution for the next 6 or so months. The company is being run into the ground.
