Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Some people still like their jobs at ExxonMobil

They exist. Usually, those are the lucky ones who have great managers who are there for their employees, unlike the majority who can't wait to yell at us or throw us under the bus. I envy them. I'd love to be able to enjoy my job and find it fulfilling once again. It makes me sad that most of us will never have that unless we change companies.

That was my experience. I am convinced she was the spawn of Satan himself. Still managing too at the the same site. Pretty pathetic actually.

If you are getting the pay raises and the best assignments and you get to work in Dallas, it’s a great job.

@OP Exxon is an easy paycheck.

If the job was hard, there wouldn’t be so many people sitting around dreaming up reasons to be unhappy with it.

I agree . I like my job. I just need managers and coworkers to do their part. Stop allowing folks to struggle while others deflect and not work .

Some people like S&M. Just because there are a few outliers doesn't mean this place is redeemable. What's your point? Do you think some good managers can fix this place? Try again. We need good Executives. They are the ones who set the policy.

If you think your manager can fix the problems that most people on this site complain about you are sadly mistaken managers can’t fix the ranking system they have to live within it managers can’t fix the pay disparity between Exxon Mobil and other options which is growing by the day managers can’t fix the culture Managers can make small changes within your individual work group to make life a little bit more bearable things like bringing in donuts or breakfast burritos but that’s about it at most you can hope for a manager who doesn’t over burden you with unnecessary meetings and who gives you clarity in what your work responsibilities are that’s about it they can’t protect you from the ranking system they can’t give you raises all of that is controlled by others

I have a manager who would be considered great at most companies except he got outmanned in the ranking discussions and I got moved down. As a result, just accepted an offer somewhere else.

There are no great or even good/average managers at ExxonMobil. Get your facts right.

Working in projects is incredibly uninspiring.

10% chance of getting a good supervisor. Most of my managers ranged from harmless mediocre individuals to demented but tolerable. There was only 1 who I would call evil. And only 1 who was excellent.

Key is working on a real part of the business. Day to day work is immediate, long hours, with direct impact yet satisfying Our work then usually gets picked up and spun around different departments.
