Quiet quitting at Cisco is the answer

Cisco cut my bonus by 15%, I will quiet quit by doing 30% less work in order to compensate for the loss in pay. I know some of you boomers look at this and say that's immoral. Well, let me tell you this: Why is Chuckie and that huge whale being paid in millions while my bonus is cut? Are they really working 1000 times more than us Engineers or Sales folks or any other individual contributors at Cisco?

If Cisco sinks, who has more to lose, Chuckie/ELT or the worker bees?

No quitting here. Just hiding a few more months. I’ve claimed covid and mental health absences for 6 months. Americans are weak indeed for allowing this do why not take advantage?

As a boomer I believe our work ethic is stronger than the younger generations along with less entitlement.

As a boomer, my work ethic is stronger. But my ethic was built upon providing a day's work for a day's pay. Given that I'm still making the same pay I made 3 yrs ago, but inflation/costs have increased every year, I'm effectively making less than I did 3 yrs ago. So, yeah, I'll be quietly quitting by only doing my assigned tasks for 40 hrs a week. To heck with working through my lunch hour to finish solving a problem, or working a bit late to fix something. It can wait until I'm back from lunch or the next morning.

Quietly quitting isn't slacking off and doing less paid work, it's about setting boundaries and not giving employers unpaid work by going above and beyond in an expectation of promotions, raises, or bonuses that never seem to be handed out.

If 15% of your bonus is 30% of your pay you’re severely overcompensated and if it isn’t you don’t know elementary school math and are therefore severely overcompensated. If you think you’re worth a certain amount of money then find a company that will pay that. If you can’t then by definition you aren’t worth it.

I think the entire field sales team quiet quit several years ago where I work. Just receiving orders and approving discounts. Could have been backoffice all together. Good luck with the transformation, Cisco, when nobody has the skills or incentives to evangelize our new business.

Cisco exceeded earnings expectations, yet the employees will only be getting 84% of their annual bonus this year. The same employees who helped Cisco exceed expectations. Cisco justifies this by saying it will increase costs by 1B in higher salaries. Don’t believe Cisco’s shenanigans. It’s the same old carrot-on-a-stick manipulative maneuver trying to convince the paupers to work even harder to fill the King’s coffers. The only thing ahead is the chopping block - especially if you’re over 50.

Senior executives possess a different mindset than most general workers; including perseverance, posture, and work politics. When these three elements are coupled together effectively this creates an expectation of high compensation; only if demonstrated performance warrants the advanced reward levels.

Being a senior executive is a chosen lifestyle and image that few can truly achieve. Creating and maintaining a personal brand takes much energy, motivation, and strategy. Not everyone has the potential and qualifications to take on the continued responsibility.

You may think Senior Leadership has it easy, but it is much like a film actor evolving into a complex role and maintaining that posture and image through their tenure.

Watch how Senior Leadership leads, with an open mind, and you may eventually understand why only the true chosen ones are capable of taking on these roles.

Not sure about the comment that some boomers find quiet quitting amoral. It's only amoral if you are being paid fairly. I'm a boomer and think it's the most rational thing to do in response to being paid less to keep doing the same job.....if you can get away with it. But, the truth is anyone with gray hair already has a target painted on their back. Quiet quitting turns quickly into fast firing for the older working. Age discrimination is a reality. But absolutely, I'd do it if I were younger. Just know that you'll be old one day as well. Invest wisely, build your wealth and avoid becoming a trapped wage slave like me.
