Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

51% of U.S. companies will have layoffs in the next year

With another 19% considering it. That's a total of 70% companies. Knowing Cisco, I can confidently say that we're not in the 30% of lucky ones who will not have layoffs any time soon. What worries me more is where to find a new job if most of our competitors also plan to lay off employees. In regular circumstances, I know I can find another job without too much trouble. But in a situation like this, I have to admit I'm worried.

Took me about 4 months to find another gig, literally 40% post tax income increase. Put yourself out there and the universe might surprise you

Exactly. Now watch all those bozos who eagerly joined AWS or whatever because their tech is so much cooler than old Cisco getting axed last in first out.

That's why you should have at least 6 months savings accumulated. That's why you should be keeping your skills current. That's why you should occasionally look for growth opportunities in other departments or outside of Cisco.

Welcome to the world of grown-ups.

You shouldn't worry about things you can't control - or be proactive and save your money for a rainy day.

It's a vicious cycle - maybe it's time to paint your face black, claim you identify as a "woman" (whatever that means, no one knows), and scream you've been discriminated against.
