Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I don't get it

I thought the point was to lay off people from other areas to strengthen model E, but I know for a fact that model E is also getting hit. What's the point of all of this, then?

The company's need to rid itself of the older employees, still eligible with a pension. So, in order to do such, and avoid age discrimination, the company must cross all demographics with its severances.

Watch for the younger severances to be re-hired months later, as this is a commonly known tactic.

@OP you have to understand the Ford culture.
It is all about Polishing the train as it goes by aka tu-d-buffing while promoting yourself. The rule is never mention anything negative about a program or product. Applause only

Of course the inevitable recurring catastrophic product problems and cost overruns need scapegoats or covering up. And well you need a constant stream of gullible, naive newcomers, so you gotta flush the employees who are wise to the ways (old timers, most knowledgeable, most skilled).

Don’t sign anything. See an employment lawyer first.
Team up with other coworkers that were terminated.

There’s strength in numbers!

Stay strong!

Trust me it better to go now and start something new before the big Michigan crash! (Ford+GM+FCA=0)

The point is a constant reminder to employees that the company doesn't care about you, and only cares about where you fall on an org chart and how much you cost the company (in benefits). If you're still working there today, time to change your mindset and be realistic. The company offers you a paycheck and benefits ..that's it!

It's all about reducing workforce cost. Will see if that is smart choice given that ford has real quality problem and spending crazy on warranty.

Didn't Ford just lose a $1.7B lawsuit? Yeah, I don't think the EV strategy is the only reason why people are getting laid off right now.

It’s safe to conclude the company wants to shed itself of the older, long-term employees, as their pay/pension is a heavy burden.

Model E doesn't need many people. It just needs some good leadership to get processes in place. Longer term, the HTHD skills needed will not be so difficult to acquire from sources all over the world.

The point of this is for executive leadership to get a better bonus. None of the actions taken in the last year were for the long term health of the company.

We used to have execs that launched game changing vehicles and created market segments to bring the company profitability. Now the best they can do is cut headcount and chase what our competitors are doing.

Anyone with a pension has a target on their back this week. You can be replaced, you're a number that's all.
